Stop spread of Boko Haram, UN, EU tell Nigerian Army chief

NOVERMBER 22, 2019 | THE BIAFRA TIMES

Olaleye Aluko

ABUJA - The United Nations and the European Union Special Representatives to West Africa and the Lake Chad Basin Commission on Wednesday met with the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, in Abuja, saying that the Boko Haram insurgents must be checkmated and their spread stopped.

The UN Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, and the EU Special Representative for the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin Commission, Angel Lusada, stated this during their visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja. They noted that their organisations would work together in the fight against terrorism in the North-East geopolitical zone.

The UN representative noted that the establishment of the Lake Chad Governors’ Forum was a welcome development and “part of a holistic approach which will focus on the root causes of insurgency.”

Chambas said, “One area of interest is the ongoing efforts to checkmate Boko Haram and stop its spread because of its affiliation to international terror groups. That is why it is incumbent on us all that we must see the fight against Boko Haram as a fight against international terrorism.

“We are all concerned and we believe that Boko Haram is a fight that we can win. That is why we are specially applauding the efforts of the army in dealing with the menace.

“We welcome the establishment of the Lake Chad Governors’ Forum which had its inaugural meeting in Maiduguri last year. We believe it is part of a holistic approach which will focus on the root causes of insurgency.”

Also speaking, the EU Representative, Lusada, noted that the union was committed to the Multinational Joint Task Force in the efforts to end Boko Haram and other terror groups in the Lake Chad Basin.

“There are many initiatives taking place and new ones coming up and this involves funding, but we want coordination. The crisis has become regional and can only be solved with regional partnerships. That is why we are meeting with stakeholders,” the EU chief said.

74th UNGA: We Must Protest Against Buhari and His Collaborators - IPOB

The Biafra Times | September 25, 2019

IPOB PRESS RELEASE

IPOB family worldwide especially our great family members in the US are on ground waiting for Buhari to appear in the United Nations General Assembly this week, the General assembly is scheduled to start deliberation from 25th of September 2019 in the city of New York. Our people in the US perfected every arrangement necessary to protest against the dictator Buhari and his government in Nigeria during the summit to prove our resoluteness and determination for the coming of Biafra and how tyrant Buhari has become. The world must understand why Biafrans need outright freedom from the unworkable system of Nigeria without much delay.

Buhari and his Fulani government in Nigeria have totally destroyed this country and we must let the world know what transpired between Biafra and Nigeria since 1945 till date. We are aware Buhari departed Abuja for New York with 3 governors, 7 ministers to attend the UN General Assembly. IPOB is going to stage a powerful and unprecedented protest against him in the US for the purpose of continued and incessant killing, arrest, destruction of properties and secret abduction of Biafrans both men, women, and children every day and night in Biafraland. The plans by Fulani government of Nigeria to stop IPOB from demanding their right for free state and independent nation of Biafra will not work. The whole world must see IPOB right in front of UN headquarters in New York.

Our case is now before the various specialised UN agencies or working groups with specialty in various specific monumental human rights abuses systematically perpetrated against Biafrans and other vulnerable individuals and groups in Nigeria. The Camallard's recent press release on Nigeria is one such example that shows how irredeemable Nigeria has become. You can understand that only the press statement has rattled Aso Rock and Fulani cabals in the presidential villa Abuja and particularly those on the seat of power in Nigeria. IPOB is strategically moving forward to restore Biafra sovereignty in no distant future.

Our meeting with UN officials last week were frank and forthright. If there were doubts before in their minds that Nigeria is one almighty calamity, the feeling we got after our discussions is that they now have a proper appreciation and deeper understanding of how irredeemably hopeless the case for one Nigeria has become in light of the reign of impunity, poverty, repression, unbridled corruption and collapse of the legal system.

The well-marshaled case for Biafra self-determination by our leader and prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was all too apparent for them to see and persuasively argued to their understanding that IPOB will not retreat nor relent in the pursuit for free and liberation of Biafran people. We will only intensify our efforts to bring about the total collapse of the unworkable union called Nigeria. High levels of police and army brutality against innocent and unarmed citizens of Biafra and absence of a compromised judiciary makes Nigeria a prime candidate for cataclysmic implosion in the not too distant future. We must protest against Buhari and his collaborators at the 74th United Nations general assembly in New York City this week.

74th UNGA: We have both direct and indirect representations - IPOB

The Biafra Times | September 23, 2019

IPOB PRESS RELEASE

We understand and respect the legitimate yearning of the public to know what transpired between IPOB delegation to the United Nations in Geneva led by our able leader and prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the staff of the various agencies of the UN we met and had fruitful discussions with. Without divulging very sensitive details that may undermine confidence and future discussions such as the one we just had, it will be prudent to say at this time that the meetings went very well and in some instances surpassed our expectations.

It can be said that what transpired between IPOB delegation and the UN official is a matter of utmost trust and confidentiality governed by mutual respect. But let say this if it will help: our case is now before the various specialised UN agencies or working groups with specialty in various specific monumental human rights abuses systematically perpetrated against Biafrans and other vulnerable individuals and groups in Nigeria. Camallard's recent press release on Nigeria is one such example. You can see that only that press statement has rattled Aso Rock. What then will happen when these war criminals begin to answer individually and collectively or brought to justice before an international court of extra-ordinary jurisdiction? We encourage victims of these heinous crimes to stop being timid and be courageous in coming forward to bear witnesses to these crimes by the Nigerian state.

Our exchanges were frank and forthright.

The compellingly well-marshaled case for Biafra self-determination by our leader was all too apparent for them to see and persuasively argued to their understanding that IPOB will not retreat nor relent, but will only intensify its efforts to bring about the collapse of the unworkable union called Nigeria. The UN were left in no doubt that Nigeria is a failed state and arguably the most unstable and dangerous place on earth at this moment. We felt they understood the antics of the current Jubri-Buhari regime is only comparable to the reign of terror of Pol Pot in Cambodia and the horrors of Idi Amin Dada's rule in Uganda but have covertly introduced a system of state-sponsored Fulanisation that can only be likened to an apartheid system or worse. High levels of police and army brutality and absence of a compromised judiciary makes Nigeria a prime candidate for cataclysmic implosion in the not too distant future.

Regarding the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York, we have both direct and indirect representations for the forthcoming events in the US. Our people are on the ground. If the right conditions which we are waiting for are put in place, our leader will personally lead our people, otherwise, it would be on a later date which would be duly announced.

The proposed confidential US trip by our leader to Washington DC is something we have been preparing for since June of this year. For us, that will be the culmination of our diplomatic offensive which is now happening in the Far East with our leader's ongoing visit to Japan. Whereas Jubril-Buhari was nowhere to be seen in public during the recently concluded TRICAD Summit in Yokohama, our leader can be seen openly touring Japanese cities and addressing open town hall meetings. Our trip to the United States is something the leadership of our movement is looking forward to with relish. Our approach will be better termed as a form of diplomatic strangulation of Nigeria. Regardless of the vast resources available to the Nigerian, one this is certain, IPOB will at the end, render Nigeria diplomatically irrelevant. They will empty their treasury and become impoverished in their effort to counter IPOB which will end in the bankruptcy and precipitous collapse of Nigeria.

There will be no peace with South East Governors. A window of opportunity existed in the past which they could have availed themselves of but instead, they chose to do the bidding of their Fulani masters in the unwarranted, immoral and treacherous persecution of IPOB in return for empty promises of higher political office. IPOB primary focus is on the liberation of our land and enthronement of liberty for all oppressed people. South East Governors are part of the problem and not the solution, therefore they will continue to be regarded as the traitors and E fulefus they have so proudly become.

In recent days they have foolishly intensified their abduction of IPOB family members including breastfeeding mothers and their babies, whereas their northern counterparts are busy paying kidnappers, rapists, and terrorists.

They must know we are mentally prepared for this era of clampdown and will endure everything they throw at us. Our time is coming and when it does, the earth will shake. The Efulefu governors can go on serving their Fulani masters but our focus is the restoration of Biafra.

Biafra: Our Steps are Guided – Kanu Tells Followers

September 20, 2019
By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Writers

The Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, had on Wednesday the 18th of September, 2019, disclosed why some of IPOB's diplomatic onslaughts are kept from the public. Addressing Biafrans who circled him as he emerged from a meeting with UN officials in Geneva, the sage made it clear to the audience that the Nigerian government has been on serious moves to undermine IPOB's efforts on the international scene.

Kanu who made a similar disclosure in the past week at the EU headquarters in Brussels, said, “At the EU Parliament, the Zoo sent two diplomats to stop us. Today they couldn't send anybody to come and see us. You must all know that the Zoo is fighting very hard to stop us. So we have to be very careful in all that we do or else they will try to stop what we are doing.”

Recall that a few months ago when Kanu toured North America, the docile and subservient Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, suddenly zoomed off to the US. That sudden trip, observers believed, was a covert move to get the US government to pay a deaf ear to the Biafra cry. Remember his ear-scorching statement while there? It was all in an attempt to frustrate Biafra diplomatic engagements.

It is not surprising that the Nigerian government is fighting tooth and neck to torpedo the Biafra boat, spending Billions of dollars in the process, while back at home its citizens wallow in poverty, hunger and starvation precipitated by unemployment, epileptic power supply, non-payment of workers salary among many other governmental dysfunctions. The hate for Biafra outweighs the love for its citizens; consequently, the well-being of an average Nigerian is secondary.

Expressing optimism, however, the Biafran leader added, “But they will not succeed.” Kanu and crew seem to be overpowering Nigerian government's ploys, Nigerian agents having failed to intercept Kanu's EU visit, and in the case of UN, didn't try at all ... a clear sign of an accepted defeat.

Our UN Diplomatic Mission, a Landmark Achievement – Kanu at Geneva

September 20, 2019
By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Writers

Delivering his promise at the last diplomatic onslaught at EU headquarters, Brussels, where he promised to take the fight for Biafra self-determination to the United Nations, reaffirmed in the tweet, “Our Next Stop is UN,” the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, said “There are those who are wondering can this thing be done. And we are showing them today that this thing that has not happened since 1945 when they started killing our people in Jos, that here today on the 18th day of September 2019, it has happened.” Kanu who made the statement while addressing a conglomerate of Biafrans who met him as he stepped out from the United Nations headquarters in Geneva where he and other top figures of IPOB leadership had meeting with UN officials was visibly triumphant.

Speaking further, the enigmatic leader of Biafra said, “I said we will come to the UN and we have come to the United Nations. Promise made, promise delivered. Remarkable.

Recall that in Brussels a week and few days ago, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, hinted on a possible visit to the UN to further the Biafra quest. While there was no genuine doubt to that, all having seen IPOB 's momentum as demonstrated with the EU visit, no one expected the UN episode so soon. The two day (17th and 18th September 2019) diplomatic meeting at the UN, therefore, took everyone by surprise.

There have been arguments about IPOB's standing at the international scene, with critics maintaining that the group lacks the finesse to launch any meaningful diplomatic engagement capable of freeing Biafra. Not that the doubting lots are not aware of IPOB’s diplomatic offensives, but doing the bidding of the Federal Government of Nigeria who is bent on frustrating the Biafra freedom demand, they vend their skepticism with a view to dwindling the masses rising hopes in the coming of Biafra. Kanu’s United Nations visit, synergizing that of the EU, thus buries all arguments.

Although the details of what was discussed in the meeting were not disclosed to the public, Kanu's body language convinces the press that the Biafran envoy is leaving Geneva with something tangible. Ears are now inclined to the group’s next move – presumably, Washington DC – especially as Kanu also hinted on that in Brussels.

Biafra: Our Case Will No Longer Be Ignored – Nnamdi Kanu at UN

IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu at UN Geneva

September 19, 2019
By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Writers

The enigma championing the current restoration quest of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Wednesday the 18th day of September 2019, scored yet another mark as he led a delegation of Biafrans to an all-important meeting with United Nations officials at Geneva. Accompanied by his deputy, Mazi Uche Okafor Mefor, Head of Directorate of State, Mazi Chika Edoziem, Head of Finance, Lady Nnennaya Anya, and other top echelons of the struggle, Kanu presented Biafra plight to the United Nations officials, demanding support for a free state of Biafra.

Emerging from the meeting yesterday the 18th of September, Kanu met a congregation of Biafrans who, on seeing their leader, began to chant his eulogy. Addressing the jubilant crowd, Kanu said, “Every issue concerning our people is now before the various arms and agencies of the United Nations. Our case will no longer be ignored.”

“Every issue concerning our people” as mentioned by Kanu ranges from the incessant killing of Biafrans in their own land by terrorist Fulani herdsmen, extortion and killing of Biafran motorcyclists and commercial drivers by Nigerian army and police over refusal to give 50 bribery, killing of Biafrans in the Northern hemisphere by Islamic extremists, disfranchising Biafrans in the western part of the country as well as in the North, illegal take-over of Biafrans' property by Lagos State government, systematic oppression and economic emasculation of the Biafran, forceful Islamization of the country as currently constituted, illegal detention of unarmed agitators, flagrant contempt of court orders, and  incessant abduction and extrajudicial killings of IPOB family members ... all of which form the basis of the agitation for the separate state of Biafra which, in earnest, was existing before the Lugardian amalgamation of 1914.

Exploiting the rights of indigenous people to self-determination as provided by the UN charter 2007, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in his charisma has conscientiously pursued freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra. Presenting the aforementioned matters to the UN with presumably offers for a better deal than the failed Nigerian State can strike, Kanu and crew seem to have wrecked the Nigerian boat. Certainly, he must have gotten reassuring promises to have told his followers that they will no longer be ignored.

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu leads delegation to meet UN officials in Geneva

The Biafra Times | September 16, 2019

By Joe Chukindi

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has revealed that its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will on Tuesday meet with officials of the United Nations in its Geneva, Switzerland office.

A press release by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the group, Emma Powerful, stated that contrary to speculations that Kanu would meet the officials during the general assembly in Washington, it opted for a smaller gathering in Geneva to avoid infiltration by ‘opposition elements’, it said. Part of the release read, “Going by the relentless engagement of the international community by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) consider it imperative to inform the great people of Biafra, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom that in keeping with the promise of our leader during his last outing at the EU, he will be leading a delegation to the UN office in Geneva Switzerland on Tuesday 17th September 2019.”

Powerful said the details of the meeting would remain under wraps as previous experience during Kanu’s meeting with European Union in Brussels, showed that the federal government of Nigeria also sent two diplomats as delegates to spy on them.

“As usual details of these meetings will not be subject to public disclosure as we are well aware of the lengths the corrupt, fraudulent and election stealing cabal will go to hamstring and frustrate our efforts.

“Not many people know that Nigerian Ambassador to the EU personally rang Seb Dance, the Member of European Parliament that invited our leader to the EU, to try bullying him into canceling the event.

“Anytime we make public our critical diplomatic engagements, the Nigerian Government has used their considerable wealth and clout of sovereignty to cajole, buy-off, bribe, intimidate and threaten their business interests in Africa.

“Nigeria it must be said sent two female diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to observe our leader’s presentation at the European Parliament. Our leader even walked across to these diplomats after the event to thank them for coming. Any Nigerian or agent of Nigeria that wants to know the outcome of the Brussels outing should ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after all two of their diplomats were there to hear our leader speak.

Powerful further stated, “For the avoidance of doubt and possible misrepresentation or interpretation, our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his team will appear before the great men and women of the world at the UN headquarters in Geneva and not the General Assembly in New York as being speculated in some quarters.

“Our demand for the recognition of the right of Biafrans to self-determination and the need for urgent intervention of the civilized world in order to avert looming catastrophe will continue to gather momentum. We are relentless and will never stop until Biafra is restored.

Biafra: IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to lead delegates to UN at Geneva

September 15, 2019|The Biafra Times

IPOB Press Statement

Going by the relentless engagement of the international community by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, we the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) consider it imperative to inform the great people of Biafra, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom that in keeping with the promise of our leader during his last outing at the EU, he will be leading a delegation to the UN office in Geneva Switzerland on Tuesday 18th September 2019.

As usual details of these meetings will not be subject to public disclosure as we are well aware of the lengths the corrupt, fraudulent and election stealing cabal will go to hamstring and frustrate our efforts. Not many people know that Nigerian Ambassador to the EU personally rang Seb Dance the Member of European Parliament that invited our leader to the EU, to try bullying him into cancelling the event. Anytime we make public our critical diplomatic engagements, the corrupt Nigerian Government has used their considerable wealth and clout of sovereignty to cajole, buy-off, bribe, intimidate and threaten their business interests in Africa. Nigeria it must be said sent two female diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  to observe our leader's presentation at the European Parliament. Our leader even walked across to  these diplomats after the event to thank them for coming. Any Nigerian or agent of Nigeria that wants to know the outcome of the Brussels outing should ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after all two of their diplomats were there to hear our leader speak.

Over two days this week our indomitable leader will engage in a series of meetings and will for the first time officially present to various UN agencies and bodies a catalogue of serial killings, abductions, massacre and ongoing reign of terror in Nigeria against Biafrans. It is our stated intention to bring the human tragedy that Nigeria has become to the attention of the civilised world.

For the avoidance of doubt and possible misrepresentation or interpretation, he General Assembly in New York as being soeculated in some quarters.

Our demand for the recognition of the right of Biafrans to self-determination and the need for urgent intervention of the civilised world in order to avert looming catastrophe will continue to gather momentum.  We are relentless and will never stop until Biafra is restored.

We call on hardcore Biafrans living in Switzerland and other European countries to come out in solidarity and support of our leader and his team on this landmark occasion.

It should be recalled that our leader explicitly stated during his visit to EU Parliament that our next move will be to the UN and after that Washington DC.  Today we are glad to say the UN visit is set and in the coming weeks, we will be in Washington DC.

IPOB is fighting very strongly on all diplomatic and legal fronts to ensure that the right of Biafrans and other trapped ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to self-determination is upheld. We will not leave any stone unturned in our quest to accomplish this.

Biafra: Our Next Stop is UN - Nnamdi Kanu Asserts

September 13, 2019

By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Writers

Having successfully launched Biafra struggle into the heart of EU members of parliament, the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is again orchestrating plans to take the agitation to the United Nations. Kanu who took to his official twitter handle to thank members of the EU who gave him audience at Brussels said, “A big thank you to MEP Seb Dance, his colleagues and hardcore Biafrans that made our visit to the European Parliament on September 10, 2019, memorable. IPOB worldwide are thankful. Quest to restore Biafra is unstoppable. Next stop, UN.”

Undeniably, Kanu since reemergence has been grossly engaged in underground diplomatic moves to galvanize international support for Biafra. With the recent invitation to the EU, the moves are paying off it seems. While the forces of darkness holding Biafrans bound are yet to recover from the fever of the EU breakthrough, an optimistic Kanu is already looking forward to a bigger kill.

Recall that while Kanu was still incommunicado following the invasion of his home by the murderous Nigerian military, his deputy, Mazi Uche Okafor Mefor, the Head of Directorate of State, Mazi Chika Edoziem, Deputy Head of Directorate of State, Mazi Tony Nzurumike, and the Head of Finance, Lady Nnennaya Anya, went to United Nations headquarters at Geneva to present evidence of Nigerian government's killing of unarmed IPOB members.

This time around, however, if Kanu and crew go to the UN, it will be to present Biafra on the table as he has done at EU. And with the gusto, Kanu and group pursue whatever they set mind on, one will not be surprised to hear of his invitation to the UN soon.

The United Nations Silence on Biafra Exit, a Conspiracy against Black Africa

May 14, 2019

By Okoafor Odinaka | Biafra Writers

The United Nations is an intergovernmental body with a mission to maintain peace, security, and human rights while offering humanitarian aids and promoting sustainable development. The UN principal organs include the General Assembly, the Security Council, the International Court of Justice, and more.

Some believe that the body is truly for peace and human development, while others doubt its sincerity and effectiveness. Those staring at the UN with doubtful eye are not doing so for fun; they have their reason. Cogent ones come to that.

As pointed out earlier, one of the aims of forming the UN is to maintain peace and security, and the UN has an organ – the Security Council – in charge of that.  Has this organ been awake to its duties as regards the Nigeria Biafra issue?  The UN Security Council has the power to make a binding decision on such matters like Biafraexit. Their silence, therefore, is conspiratorial demeaning.

The Secretary-General of the UN on whose laps the onus to bring to the attention of the Security Council matters that threaten international peace and security has conveniently looked the other way. And so has International Court of Justice, ICJ, whose principal assignment is to adjudicate international disputes. The court has heard cases of war crimes, illegal state interferences, ethnic cleansing, and other similar crimes, yet turned a blind eye. Maybe because black Africans are involved?

READ ALSO:Biafra’s Annual Heroes and Heroines Day, an Already Established Day in Biafra Land

In many cases, the UN member-states have shown reluctance in enforcing Security Council resolutions. Sometimes even, disagreements in the Security Council forestall peace moves. For example, disagreements in the Security Council over military intervention made the Rwandan genocide in 1994 to succeed for the length of time it did. Similarly, UN inaction is blamed for the Srebrenica massacre in 1995, the incessant killing of Biafrans in Nigeria, and to some extent, the Somali Civil War.

Since the formation of the UN, about seventy countries have gained independence. This was made possible by the UN declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonized Countries and Peoples.  Why then is the issue of Biafra different? Are Biafrans not humans?

Biafrans hereby call on the world to do the needful. We are being killed, raped, and humiliated almost on a daily basis. The world should act to preempt another war, for a man pushed to the wall has no choice than to push back.

UN’s Battered Image And The Need For Redemption By Granting Biafra Freedom

By Eluwa Chidiebere Chinazu | For Biafra Writers

October 1, 2018

Recently, the United Nation (UN) has been receiving barrage of critics from the American government. The American government has in several occasions, openly criticized UN of being pro-Islam and threatened to withdraw her membership and support to the UN. To the President of the United States of America (USA), Mr. Donald J. Trump, UN is an organization all-encompassing with incompetency in upholding her laws and protection of human rights against abuses as it professes.

In addendum to that datum, UN to the cultured nations around the globe is becoming a drowsy and a toothless organization, whose sun is fading away because of her unscrupulous carriage. The threat which UN posed before is not the same now; her influence has diminished. This observation is supported by the let-down UN suffered from the Swiss embassy in Nigeria who swept UN ego aside, switched their respect to Nigeria by denying family members of the leader of the Biafran people, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, visa to honour UN invitation. With this degrading act from Swiss embassy in collaboration with the Nigerian government which raised eyebrows and got eyes fat, one can now say with certitude that UN’s image is battered and becoming a guttersnipe organization unless she shocks the world to redeem her lost glory.

There is a saying that has gained currency in the minds of the people around the world, that: “UN is incapable of granting freedom (nationhood) to an emerging nation.” This statement no doubt downplays UN potency in all facets. It is evidently clear there in history that UN has never from inception, single-handedly set any nation or country free. UN cannot even blow their own horn of being the architect or instrumental to the freedom of any people seeking for sovereignty. This, in a nutshell, is a dent on their image.

READ ALSO: Voter Apathy And Boycott Of Elections, The Only Way To End Abusive Political Selection In Nigeria

It is proficiently lucid in history that UN always runs away, feigns ignorance or chickens out from their obligation when it comes to them giving freedom to a people that deserve it. The role UN played on Biafra issue during the war can be used to buttress this conviction. During the Biafra-Nigeria war, with the British and Russian governments’ armament support on the side of the Nigerian government, the Nigerian Armed Forces were refreshed, reinforced and geared up in committing different forms of atrocities against innocent Biafran civilians. Crowded marketplaces were bombarded which resulted in the horrific starvation that took millions of lives of Biafran children. Many people in the world were not aware because Britain in their propaganda-diplomatic ploy concealed it. The BBC was use to penetrate lies of no starvation and no bombing of crowded marketplaces in Biafra. UN equally joined Britain in spreading that lie in order to take the pressure of setting a new nation free off themselves.

This time around, the ball is set for UN to get it right or cause more harm to their battered image. UN setting Biafra free single-handedly will speak volume to the world. UN can be productive in Biafra freedom if only they decide to enforce the laws they made. The world is aware that pressure will be coming from Britain and other beneficiaries of Nigerian state on UN to turn their eye of justice away from the Biafra case. But in this 21st century, people are wiser. UN shouldn’t contemplate running away from the reality else, they will face the threat of being irrelevant in this contemporary world.

Biafra: IPOB commend its leadership for a successful meeting with United Nations

September 21, 2018

IPOB Press Statement |Published on The Biafra Times

We the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) commend the leadership and delegation led by the deputy leader Mazi Uche Mefor to the United Nations On September 14, same day Biafrans were remembering the victims of the invasion of the home of our leader at Isiama Afaraukwu Umuahia. This is the first time in the post war history of Biafra that the leadership of any group, movement or people has met with the United Nations in a face to face meeting to discuss anything pertaining to the plight of Biafrans or the Eastern Region.

It was a historic encounter that will go a long way in cementing the diplomatic credentials of IPOB in the eyes of the international community. This is the very first time that United Nations have had the opportunity to host Biafrans to a meeting. It is only appropriate that we appreciate all those working tirelessly hard with our diplomatic team based in London to accomplish this feat.

We equally commend the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (DOS-IPOB) under the distinguished leadership of Mazi Chika Edoziem who accompanied our deputy leader to the historical meeting in the company of the rest of the High Command of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The historic encounter with United Nations officials in Geneva has opened up avenues and opportunities for further engagement between IPOB and relevant UN agencies around the burning issues of human rights violations by the Buhari regime and enforcement of IPOB's universal right to self determination.

During the discussions, Uche Mefor pledged on behalf of the worldwide family of IPOB to commit the movement to working within the guidelines of United Nations charters and obligations in recognition of the unique privilege Nigeria currently enjoy as a full fledged member of the United Nations.

Unfortunately, the Kanu family, whose United Nations invitation to the event was truncated by the Swiss embassy in Abuja alongside other first hand eye witness to the military invasion of Afaraukwu on September 14, 2017 the day over 28 persons were shot dead by the Nigerian military, was denied representation at the meeting because the Swiss embassy refused them entry visa to Switzerland on the instructions of the Nigerian government. This flagrant disregard for United Nations issued invitation was also raised during discussions which the UN team assured the IPOB delegation will be looked into as a matter of urgency.

With this meeting satisfactorily concluded, IPOB has gone where no other group of leaders before it has dared go to. It will forever be recorded that for nearly 50 years and for the very first time in the history of Biafra, an interface was facilitated between representatives of the people of Biafra (IPOB) and the United Nations. Due to issues of confidentiality, we are not at liberty to divulge every detail of what transpired. Suffice it to say they the world has been officially placed on notice that IPOB as a movement is determined to carve a separate existence for the people of Biafra (South East/South South) away from Nigeria.

Anybody or group of people previously in doubt about the efficacy of our multidimensional approach has been dispelled with this meeting. IPOB leadership is working quietly on all diplomatic fronts, below the radar, to avoid the usual sabotage by the Nigerian state, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Igbo governors and their local agents that don't want to see Biafra emerge as a free nation.
