Biafra Heroes Day: Multiple Reasons to Sit at Home

Dave Umahi | Biafra Writers

May 12, 2019

From the first day Britain executed its coup against the indigenous nationalities living in the contraption they called Nigeria in 1914, Biafrans have been clear targets for mass murder. The reasons were obvious; the Biafrans were republican in nature, as well as democratic. They abhor dictatorship and feudalism, and therefore would not accept what Northern Nigeria would bring to the table.

Even though the British leaders at the time called what they did amalgamation, they knew very well that it was their first step in handing over the reins of leadership to the Fulani oligarchy, its house-slaves. Britain wanted a group of anarchists they would supply the jackboot with which to hold down the Biafrans and help them (the British) to prosecute their plan of long time looting of Biafran resources. The Fulani was tailor-made for the job.

They (the Fulani) are not indigenous to the land like the Biafrans and the other nationalists. They are feudalistic, expansionistic, mean, cunning and petty. To crown it all, they have no value for human life.  These qualities they judiciously employed against the Hausas and other indigenous peoples of the North when they (Fulani) took their lands by force of arms and sheer cunningness.

The Fulani were, and still are the only group of people that will kill off an entire town or village, chase the remnants away, and then take their lands. It happened in the past and even now it is happening under this malodorous regime of Jubril Aminu of Sudan, who they have brought in to impersonate late President Muhammadu Buhari – just to stay in power and continue with their evil mission of subduing all the indigenous peoples in the contraption called the zoo.

The republican and democratic in nature of Biafrans made them a stench to the British rulers and their Fulani house-slaves since the amalgamation. The Biafrans were therefore marked for complete extermination. This was why the first murder of Biafrans in Kafanchan in 1017, during the railway construction there was not investigated. Nobody was arrested and nobody was tried or jailed. The perpetrators had done a good job, the authorities must have thought.

There were several others before the big one – the anti-Igbo pogrom of 1966 meted against the Igbo and other non-Igbo speaking Biafrans of old Eastern Nigeria living in the northern hemisphere. It started in May 1966 and reached its peak after 29 September, 1966. Nothing less than 70,000 people were massacred by Northerners under the guidance of Fulani oligarchy.

The enormity of casualties and the failed peace talk at Aburi led to the declaration of Biafra as a sovereign state, the Biafrans realizing that they were no longer safe in the contraption. Rather than deal with the issue humanly, the British incited the Fulani oligarchy all the more, leading to more atrocities and mass murders under the guise of bringing the Biafrans back into Nigeria.

Such other atrocities included the Asaba massacre of early October 1967. About a thousand civilians were rounded up and executed by northern army officers. The Asaba massacre clearly showed the intent of the perpetrators. They were set to kill-off every Biafran above the age of six, so that the social, cultural, and political configuration of the people would be completely changed without much opposition.

Well, Biafran heroes stood firm and fought gallantly, rebuffing the Islamic aggression. This is part of the reason why Biafrans will be staying back home on May 30. It is so scheduled to remember and honour the gallant men and women who stood strong and died that we may live. Biafrans will be remembering also the children who were starved to death because Nigerian government, through the help of Britain, blockaded Biafra.

The leadership of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has upped the reasons why Biafrans must sit at home on May 30 to honour their dead. It said: “This year’s remembrance and sit-at-home order will be special because it will present a unique moment of shared pains and misery for all the families that lost their loved ones to war, hunger, starvation, disease, terrorism and state sponsored killings going on now in Nigeria.

“We remember the heroic few that stood up against tyranny especially those that sacrificed their lives to defend the defenseless and those that lost their lives because there was no one to defend them.”

It asked the Middle-belt people and Yoruba brethren to join in making it historic; to honour the memory of all that died unjustly in Nigeria. IPOB added: “We are calling on all the people of Southern Kaduna, Middle Belt … especially Benue, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Kogi, and all those affected by herdsmen terrorism in Ondo, Osun and other states in Yoruba land to join the great family of IPOB in observing a day of solemn prayer and sit-at-home to remember those who lost their lives unlawfully at the hands of Fulani terrorist herdsmen and security agencies even during the recently concluded fraudulent 2019 general elections.”
There are several other atrocities done to the Biafran people by the Zoo called Nigeria which time and space will not permit us to state here. But the fact is that there are multiple reasons why Biafrans must remember their dead on May 30th this year. To remember them is a task that must be done.

Antagonizing Sit-at-home Order, an Indication Igbo Leaders are Under Hausa/Fulani Control

Pic: Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Dr. Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, departing from Enugu after a 2-day visit

May 9, 2019

By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Writers

The Indigenous People of Biafra called on the people to sit back home, disengaging from all activities for about twelve hours on the 30th of May as an expression of honour and appreciation to those who died defending them during the genocidal war of Nigeria against Biafra, the estimated one million children starved to death during this frightening period, the adult civilian victims, and the MASSOB and IPOB family members killed by Nigerian agents for no other reason but exercising their constitutional right of self-determination. In its wake, some disruptive elements have reportedly risen up to oppose the call, pegging their antagonism on some flimsy and ridiculous reasons.

Regrettably, these elements of disruption are either from the political sector or the proscribed Ohaneze Ndigbo – a class of people obsessed with the nomenclature “Igbo leaders” but practically does nothing befitting to truly earn it.  Considering that asides their thugs, personal aids and a few dependents, most of them do not have actual followers, one wonders what manner of leadership they lay claim on. Well, this article does not seek to question their claim on leadership but their sanity instead.

As published by the Punch newspaper on May 5, 2019, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, Anambra state government, the Deputy Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, have all staged opposition to the sit-at-home declaration by IPOB to honour departed Biafran heroes. In their antagonism, some of them tugged at economic effects of the order, while orders merely questioned the constitutional rights of IPOB as a body to make such call.

RELATED NEWS: 30TH MAY: Hostility to Sit-at-home Order, a Treachery-driven Wheeze

Reading through the utterances as published and credited to them, I found myself reeling back into the past. Shortly after the people of Nimbo in Nsukka was massacred by the marauding Fulani herders, the governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, thought it best to bring to the grieving land the Sultan of Sokoto whose foot soldiers unleashed the mayhem. To receive this Islamic “Lord,” schools were shut down, banks were shut down, the famous Ogige market was shut down, commercial transporters were forced out of the road, and even street markets were all shut down. Life was practically brought to a standstill. The so-called Igbo leaders now sprouting from all corners to express economic concerns over the Heroes’ Day sit-at-home call by IPOB never uttered a word. They didn’t express any concern over the economic plight of the people. None of them questioned the wisdom in shutting down a city in honour of one Islamic irredentist on visit. But they antagonize IPOB for seeking to honour Biafran fallen heroes, in the same manner, Enugu state government honoured the Sultan.

Not long ago, the enclave was agog with a political tug-of-war. When APC brought their frontman, Jubril, to Onicha for campaign, economic activities were shut down. When they took him to Aba, Enugu, Igwe-ocha (Port Harcourt), Asaba and the rest of the places he went, the respective cities were forcefully shut down. Commuters were even barred from passing. No Igbo leader, be it political or sociocultural, expressed any concern over the impact of such on the economy of the people. As a matter of fact, they cheered on.  Yet they consider twelve hours of sitting back at home in honour of Biafran fallen heroes too much a sacrifice.

As mentioned in paragraph three, some people, notably Ebonyi state government, questioned the constitutional rights of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as a body to issue such order. One then begins to ask: What constitutional rights have the governors in shutting down a city in honour of a visiting Sultan or a Buhari-impersonating Jubril?

Of course, the disruptive elements in the guise of Igbo leaders have ulterior motive for opposing the sit-at-home call. As have been laid to bare, both the economic plight of the people and the question of constitutional rights advanced by these elements are but a ruse. The real reason behind their antagonism is to demonstrate to the Northern hegemony their unwavering loyalty to the caliphate. Of course, the caliphate hates everything pertaining to Biafra, and since after the war has been dictating the political tune in the South East. As such, they install into power those loyal to them and use them to work against Biafra. Igbo political office holders as well as those aspiring to would readily oppose anything Biafran so as to endear themselves to the caliphate.

IPOB declares May 30 sit at home in remembrance of their fallen heroes and all victims of state-sponsored killings

May 2, 2019

IPOB PRESS RELEASE | Published by The Biafra Times

We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) considers it imperative to use this great opportunity provided by the Most High God to announce the sit at home order throughout Biafraland and Nigeria in remembrance of our fallen heroes and heroines whose sacrifice made it possible for this generation to be alive today.

We shall also remember all victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks, Boko Haram violence and those that died at the hands of Nigerian security agencies over the years that nobody remembers.

We are calling on all the people of Southern Kaduna, Middle Belt especially Benue, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Kogi, those affected by herdsmen terrorism in Ondo, Osun and other states in Yorubaland to join the great family of IPOB in observing a day of solemn prayer and sit at home to remember those that lost their lives unlawfully at the hands of Fulani terrorist herdsmen and security agencies even during the recently concluded fraudulent  2019 general elections.

This year's remembrance and Sit-At-Home order will be special because it will present a unique moment of shared pains and misery for all the families that lost their loved ones to war, hunger, starvation, disease, terrorism and state-sponsored killings going on now in the contraption called Nigeria.

We remember the heroic few that stood up against tyranny especially those that sacrificed their lives to defend the defenseless and those that lost their lives because there was no one to defend them.

There will be no human, vehicular or animal movement across Biafraland on the 30th May 2019. Biafraland will be in total lockdown. Middle Belt and Yorubaland brethren are advised to join this historic sit at home order to honor the memory of all that died unjustly in Nigeria.

Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, and Temples are encouraged to open their places of worship on the midnight of the 29th of May for special midnight prayers in remembrance of all that died as a result of violence and sponsored killings. Special vigil will be held at the homes of select Biafran heroes and heroines who were murdered in cold blood in Biafraland.

30th of May is now an annual remembrance event initiated by IPOB worldwide to honor our fallen Biafran soldiers without whom this generation of Biafrans would not have existed. We owe our heroes and heroines of the class of 67-70 an incalculable debt of gratitude and shall honor them annually until the end of time. We shall never forget them as long as this world exist.

In our usual tradition, all IPOB families in the diaspora must rally on the streets of their respective countries with written petitions ready to be submitted to the nearest United Nation offices and embassies of foreign missions in that country.

As our freedom draws near this year, our 30th of May sit-at-home and total lockdown of Biafraland will be remarkable. The whole world is looking up to Biafrans especially IPOB family members worldwide, who through the grace of the Most High God will deliver Biafra and all other oppressed people's of Northern and Western Nigeria from bondage Northern oligarchy put innocent and unarmed citizens in the country.

Biafra: IPOB proscribes Ohanaeze, South East governors, bans group activities in the East"

September 19, 2018

IPOB Press Statement |Published on The Biafra Times

By virtue of the overwhelming compliance with the 14th of September 2018 Sit-At-Home order issued by IPOB and the mandate conferred therein as the authentic representative of the people of the east, we the Indigenous People of Biafra do hereby declare the proscription of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and all other gatherings of saboteurs and collaborators operating within Biafra. In keeping with the spirit of this declaration, we warn that anybody or group of persons working with Nnia Nwodo led Ohaneze Ndigbo or South East Governors Forum is doing so at their own risk. These two groups (Ohaneze & South East governors) do not represent the people of the east and lack the popular mandate to do so. Events of September 14, is confirmation that our people have rejected their politics of acquiescence, servitude and slavery.

Ohaneze Ndigbo was formed in 1976 to destabilize the progressive established order under the leadership of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe in the run up to 1979 democratic rule. The few surviving founding members of Ohanaeze will attest to this undisputed fact. To weaken the post war cohesion that still existed among the people of the east, Fulani caliphate gathered their Igbo agents together to destroy the east from within. With what Ohaneze has become in recent times, there is little doubt that our oppressors succeeded in holding us down through their agents in Ohaneze and governor's lodges.

Contrary to public perception, Ohaneze Ndigbo is not a creation of Igbo people but rather is an assemblage of high profile traitors during the war, with the exception of Dr. Akanu Ibiam. It was a group engineered by Arewa north to provide the east with false leadership. From inception, Ohaneze Ndigbo has been answerable to Arewa North not to the people of the east. No Ohaneze Ndigbo leader can emerge without the blessing of the northern ruling class.

It was this same Ohaneze Ndigbo that took money from their Northern masters to allow three Igbo speaking local governments from Ebonyi to be carved into Benue State. The same Ohaneze Sat and did nothing as Obigbo, Egbema and the rest of Igbo speaking people were gerrymandered into Rivers State and Delta State to be categorised as South South. They abandoned Igboakiri (Igbanke) to Ogbemudia and his Northern masters, that made an Igbo territory part of Edo State. They betrayed Anioma people by repeatedly refusing to fight for their absorption into the core Igbo family. Today we have families in Egbema divided along state lines. Some people in the same family, with the same surname find themselves in two distinct geo-political zones. Some are South East the other is Niger Delta. This is an unpardonable crime by Ohaneze Ndigbo against the land and the people.

With over 90 per cent compliance to the IPOB sit-at-home order, including Enugu and Ebonyi State as evidenced by photos obtained from the server of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, it has been confirmed beyond every reasonable doubt that all parts of Biafraland complied with the order. By so doing, Biafrans conferred a historic and unprecedented mandate on IPOB to pilot the affairs of the Eastern Region.

All efforts by South East governors to use financial inducement and media misinformation to fool the people into thinking some parts of Biafra did not comply with the order has been laid bare by secret photos of empty Enugu streets taken by NAN which they conspiratorially failed to publish. The existence of these NAN photos confirms what we have always known, that South East governors decided to wage media war to discredit a successful exercise once it dawned on them that IPOB command the loyalty and mandate of the people.

Nothing under sun shall remain concealed forever. News Agency of Nigeria must be compelled to publish all pictures it took of northern Biafran territories on the morning of September 14, 2018. If compliance was not 100% as they claim, why have they refused to officially publish their own pictures? If they have any shred of credibility left, News Agency of Nigeria should state if any of the pictures published alongside this press release is not part of the many pictures they took of empty Enugu streets on the mid-morning of September 14?

In as much as the the people of the east is concerned, Ohaneze Ndigbo no longer exist, but only on paper. Henceforth any public gathering organised by them will be disrupted. The era of traitors and collaborators presiding over the affairs of the people of the east has come to an end.
