As Nigerians countdown to the much-trumpeted 2019 presidential election, many political gladiators with dented records have initiated their deceptive moves, calling on the poor masses whose future they are squandering to participate in the fruitless exercise.
The recent calls by the former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voters' Cards, PVCs, to oust out of office, the incumbent regime of Tyrant Muhammadu Buhari come 2019, is not only laughable but a clear manifestation that the contraption called Nigeria is still leaving in illusion.
It is very pitiful that Obasanjo who ought to be tried at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in The Hague over his alleged involvement in a genocidal war, ethnic cleansing, and man's inhumanity to mankind is still left on the loose, touring Nigeria and asking the same people he slaughtered their beloved ones especially in Odi, Bayelsa state to acquire the PVCs in order to produce another cruel dictator. No wonder Patrick Obahiagbon, former member, House of Representatives posited that Nigeria is encircled by megalomaniac politicians.
Putting the records straight, PVCs do not oust out dictators from power because it empowers them the more to continue in their atrocities. Rather, coordinated civil disobedience through election boycott does. For instance, the current Cameroonian President, Paul Biya was sworn into power on 6th November 1982, after an abrupt resignation of his predecessor, Almadou Ahidjo, on 4th November 1982. Till today, the dictator Paul Biya has been serving for over 36 years against the wishes of his countrymen. Prior to this, Cameroonians have gone to the polls for seven (7) good times, armed with their PVCs to remove him from office but have failed rigorously. Their failure and defeat at the polls is as a result of a corrupt system of governance and manipulation of electoral results as also frequently witnessed in Nigeria.
By and large, votes do not count in Nigeria and Africa. Only the power of election boycotts. Anything short of this may not be feasible. Having understood this, the people of Biafra have unanimously and unequivocally made a resolution to boycott every election in Biafraland come 2019. The era of political fraternity which yields no positive fruit has gone.
