Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's Detention And The Hardship In Nigeria

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu IPOB leader

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's Detention And The Hardship In Nigeria

By Eluwa Chidiebere Chinazu | Biafra Writers

October 27, 2024

Before the illegal detention of the Biafran leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on 27th June, 2021, many Nigerians harbored the belief that the Biafran leader was in all facets a great impediment to Nigeria's growth. Kanu was blamed for Nigeria's woes and hated by those who upheld and nurtured the faith of a workable Nigeria - a faith that many see as mirage through Kanu's brilliant expositions on Radio Biafra.

Upon Kanu's arrest, Malam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the then President Buhari, accused Kanu of inflicting hardship on Nigerians. With this statement from Garba Shehu, Nigerians were in high spirits, hoping for the best since the bad egg is in detention. Unfortunately, they got the worst after arresting their supposed "Mr. Hardship" called Nnamdi Kanu.

From the religious view, Nigeria is currently nothing less than a curse. In comity of nations, Nigeria is a perfect example of a failed state. People no longer canvas for infrastructural developments, rather their main problem is food.

To say that Nigeria is bereaved of success is not exaggeration. Nigeria lacks the gumption to salvage the economic meltdown that has befallen it. The depth of Nigeria's debt causes goose bumps to her citizens. Nigeria is already on her knees.

Hunger has really humbled Nigerians. The wise words of Nnamdi Kanu are rapidly coming to fruition. It was the devastated situation of Somalia that gave rise to the phrase "failed state" in 1991, now that there is a country worse than the then Somalia, what phrase do we coin from Nigeria deplorable situation.

The illegal imprisonment without conviction of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu, a premeditated action by the Federal Government of Nigeria

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

The illegal imprisonment without conviction of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu, a premeditated action by the Federal Government of Nigeria

June 25, 2024 | The Biafran Times

By Charles Opanwa

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was first arrested in 2015, charged with offences of treasonable felony, unlawful possession of arms, and illegal importation of broadcast equipment, at a Federal High Court in Abuja. Unable to convict him of any of the aforementioned crimes, Kanu was granted bail in April 2017 on medical grounds.

As though the 18 MONTHS in jail and the resultant health deterioration weren't enough, the marauding Nigerian Soldiers raided his country home in Afara Ukwu, Umuahia, in September 2017. That left 28 unarmed innocent young men dead, and several others wounded. The prime target, Kanu, however, in some miraculous way, survived the assault ... though not without life-threatening injuries. After 14 months of incommunicado ...a period believed to have been spent on recuperation, Kanu made a public appearance in the Western Wall of Jerusalem.

In April 1, 2019, Kanu filed an application through his lawyer, Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor,  urging the court to restore his bail on the ground that the court will guarantee his safety when he comes back to the country to continue his trial. The trial judge, Justice Binta Nyako, whose son and husband are at the mercy of Nigerian government, however turned this request down, adding that the only way she could guarantee Kanu’s safety is to keep him in PRISON.

On June 18, 2021, Citizen Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in Nairobi, Kenya. He was tortured and detained in a private facility for 8 DAYS before his extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.

Citizen Kanu took his case to the appeal court on October 13, 2022. The appeal court cleared him of all charges filed by the federal government, yet he was held back ... illegally. In December 2023, grossly influenced by the federal government, the supreme court upturned the judgement.

From the date of Citizen Nnamdi Kanu's extraordinary rendition to Nigeria, Kanu has spent THREE YEARS in jail yet his trial is yet to begin. One therefore can't help but wonder if the illegal imprisonment of Nnamdi Kanu without conviction is a  government premeditated action.

Man Of The Year: Nnamdi Kanu, A Phenomenal Extraordinary Personality, Nominated By A Popular Vote

Man Of The Year: Nnamdi Kanu, A Phenomenal Extraordinary Personality, Nominated By A Popular Vote

December 25, 2023 | The Biafran Times

In the history and study of modern and ancient sociopolitical movements around the world, certain figures emerge as rare gems and catalysts for change, championing the holistic cause and aspirations of their people, this includes even when a proportionate number of the people does not consciously appreciate the ups and downs surrounding the task, the challenges that the struggle portends, and the immense sacrifices required to achieve the desired goal.

One such individual who has carved a niche for himself in the annals and books of modern history is Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra movement and the crowned prince of Afara Ukwu Ibeku - his clan traditional rulership mantle. Widely regarded as a standard-bearer which naturally endowed him the Igbo highly reserved and revered title of "Ohamadike 1 of Biafra" - a man of valor, and the epitome of exceptional leadership (Onyendu) – a leader who leads from the front, and bares a firsthand experience of the enemy's attacks and belligerent overtures.

Kanu's journey in life as a freedom fighter, and Self-determination activist is both fascinating and also immersed in complexities.
He undoubtedly, deserves the honor of the "Man of the Year" title being nominated, for his exceptional leadership and never-say-die activism. His impact on the voices yearning for emancipation in Nigeria today, cannot be overstated nor overemphasized.

Nnamdi Kanu's evolution into a freedom fighter can be traced back to his early life. Born to a family deeply rooted in the Igbo culture, Kanu's sense of identity and belonging became pivotal in shaping his convictions. His journey for Biafra self-determination commenced with the revamping of the defunct Radio Biafra, a media platform that would later become central, and very instrumental in disseminating his message of freedom to his people, and global community.

Kanu's advocacy for the independence of Biafra is characterized by his steadfast commitment to the cause. His unwavering belief in the right to self-determination for the people of Eastern Nigeria has positioned him as a standard-bearer for the contemporary Biafran independence movement. Through his speeches and time-tested pronouncements, Kanu aroused a vision and consciousness that resonates with those who sincerely sought freedom and liberty from systemic oppression.

At the heart of Kanu's influence and activism lies his extraordinary leadership style. He combines charisma with a great deal of understanding of the ills confronting his people. His ability to objectively articulate issues at hand, and propose durable, painstaking solutions has garnered him a dedicated followership of global outreach. His leadership transcends the conventional, as it navigates through complexities of politics with pragmatic diplomacy and finesse.

While the term "freedom fighting" often depicts the images of conflicts and physical confrontations, Nnamdi Kanu distinguishes himself as a man of peace. His calls for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the Biafran question - through a United Nations supervised referendum - underscore a commitment to avoiding unnecessary bloodshed. This makes him outstanding from those who initially from the onset embraced and adopted the radical approach against oppression and occupation, even without giving a benefit of doubt.

Kanu's impact has not gone unnoticed on the global stage. His activism over the years has earned him a definite relationship platform with certain, respected world leaders and institutions, reflecting the acknowledgment of his efforts in championing the cause of the Biafran people jealously yet without cynicism. This honor is not merely a personal accolade but a recognition of the broader movement he represents and the aspirations of those who rally behind, and around him.

However, the path to freedom and emancipation is fraught with challenges and confrontations. Yet, Kanu's pragmatic approach of obliging the Nigeria judiciary system irrespective of the high-handedness of the Nigerian authorities, remains indispensable.

Moreover, the nomination of Kanu as the best freedom fighter of 2023 through a popular opinion poll conducted on the X social network platform, buttresses the fact about the viral support and admiration he has earned from a disproportionate members of the society, as a result of his long sufferings and consistency, even under immense physical and psychological torture behind the solitary confinement walls of the Nigerian secret police (DSS), cell for over two years.

The acknowledgment from the public reflects the resonance of his message, and how deep it has sunk into the minds of those who believes and concurs with it. Kanu's ability to mobilize public opinion and rally support speaks volumes about his influence and the indispensability of his person in the affairs of the people of Eastern Nigeria especially as it pertains the socioeconomic and political aspect of life. It can be safe to say, that all of which revolves around him, as the people has immense trust in him, thus invariably trusts his judgement as uncompromising and unbetraying.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu stands as a phenomenal and extraordinary freedom fighter whose impact so far, reverberates beyond the confines of the Nigerian landscape. His journey decorated by his commitment to peace, his unfettered resolve for true independence as well as his unique leadership style, paints a portrait of a man deeply connected to his roots and the aspirations of his people.

While controversies from certain quarters about him may surely exist, however his recognition as the Man of the Year - not only through the online poll, but also on the ground worldwide -  reflects the acknowledgment of his significant role in shaping the discourse on self-determination as far the history of Nigeria is concerned. Whether one views him as a hero or a controversial figure, Nnamdi Kanu remains, an undeniable enigma in history of freedom fighting of the 21st Century.

The Continued Detention Of Kanu A Catalyst For Biafra Sovereignty

The Continued Detention Of Kanu A Catalyst For Biafra Sovereignty

By Eluwa Chidiebere Chinazu | Biafra Writers

November 23, 2023

Many have questioned the possibility of the emergence of the sovereign state of Biafra. This is so in the wake of the continued detention of IPOB Supreme Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. A good number even, although previously had maintained high hopes in the struggle, now wallow in despair. The incarceration of Kanu did the damage.

But has the hope of restoring Biafra been buried truly with the illegal detention of the leader? If so, then why is Kanu still being held even without a verdict? It is not as though he is sentenced and serving a jail term; no, he is not even convicted. They are just illegally holding him.

From time immemorial, the defeat of a people is shown by beheading their leader or sending him to an indefinite jail. This in all honesty is the Nigerian wish for the Biafran leader. Nevertheless, Nigeria being cautious enough to keep Kanu in detention, albeit illegally, is an indication that the restoration of Biafra is underway.

Nigeria, through the court numerous adjournment, may be buying time, waiting for when the people will forget their leader before snuffing life out of him. But as the saying goes, while the hunter is preparing his gun to shoot, the bird is also sharpening its wings to fly.

Sidelining a people politically, geographically, economically and siphoning every human and natural resources in their land, is tantamount to slavery. But in all these, one thing is sure, at last Biafra will fly.

IPOB names INEC officials drafted to Imo State, warn against election rigging

 IPOB PRESS RELEASE

November 3, 2023 |The Biafra Times

IPOB NAMES INEC OFFICIALS DRAFTED TO IMO STATE AND WARNED THEM NOT TO RIG THE NOVEMBER 11 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION.

The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the great and indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu KANU warns INEC not to throw Imo State into political crisis in the coming Imo State gubernatorial election.

As much as IPOB does not get involved in the Nigeria fraudulent political selection called election, nevertheless, we are not going to be silent and watch the Nigeria Government use corrupt INEC officials to perpetuate evil in Imo State and by extension the Southeast Region.

Everyone is familiar with INEC's fraudulent activities during elections in Nigeria. INEC is not independent but fully dependent on the government in power or to any moneybag politician who lines their pockets. However, in this coming election in Imo State, INEC officials must very circumspect not to throw Imo State into crisis by becoming willing tools to renew another four years-mandate of suffering, hunger, and killings.

INEC officials must not be another Supreme Court that imposed a rejected candidate on Imo Indigenes using the fulanized Supreme Court. That illegality of the Supreme Court threw Imo State into unwarranted suffering, political intimidation, and mass killings.

IPOB members are not politicians and neither partisan, but we are against any political party or government that is toxic to our people. The Supreme Court Governor in Imo State, Hope Uzodinma is a murderer and a mass killer who has killed and forcefully disappeared a lot of people in Imo State. He has ensured that insecurity reigns supreme in Imo State and beyond. Those who are colluding with him to rig him back into power should watch their back. He who fetches an ant infested firewood has indirectly invited lizards for a party. Therefore, INEC officials that Hope Uzodinma handpicked and drafted to rig the Imo State election should be very careful not to buy a market that comes with heavy prices. We want these drafted INEC officials to know that Imo State people are groaning in pains from a killer government and it will be suicidal for them to subvert their wishes in this coming election because of money or threat. If you can't stand the threat and can't say no to bribes to suvert the will of Imo citizens, you have the time to back off. But should you subvert the will of the people, be ready for the consequences. Ndimo and IPOB intelligence in Imo State are watching.

The IPOB intelligence has uncovered some INEC officials that have been drafted to various Imo State Local Government Areas to compromise election results in favour of Hope Uzodinma and APC. All these identified and named officials are from outside Imo State except one official. We advise every one of them to be professional or back off if they can't be neutral and do their job honestly. If they insist on doing the dirty job, then they should get ready for the consequences.

They are:

(27) Owerri West - Okike Emeka (Ebonyi State)08035608131.

Doubt IPOB to your own peril.

Imo citizens and Ndigbo should watch out for the INEC officers mentioned above call them to order. Anyone who compromises the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo State should be held accountable in whatever format available and the person should pursued to his or her home for betraying Ndimo state.

Moreso, those hotel owners in Owerri who have concluded plans to hand over their hotels to the Imo Administrator from the 4th to 11th of November as rigging centers, should be careful not to jeopardize their businesses after the elections. It will be stupid of any hotel owner to sacrifice his hotel business for political expediency. They are hereby warned.

Also, we declare that any religious leader, traditional ruler, or traditionalist campaigning for the Fulani imposed governor, murderous government in Imo State to continue is a hypocrite. That person may be directly or indirectly benefiting from the sponsored insecurity situation in Imo State. IPOB hereby advise willing voters in Imo State to go out and vote their preferred governorship candidate and defend their votes on the November 11, 2023 governorship election.

Nigerian Youths: Kanu The Only Way To Regain Your Voice

Nigerian Youths: Kanu The Only Way To Regain Your Voice

By Eluwa Chidiebere Chinazu | Biafra Times

July 3, 2023

It is now two years since this humongous cruelty was meted out against the leader of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Nigerian government contravenes its own law just to crush the freedom fighter. Though the court  discharged and acquitted Kanu of all charges, the government still held him.

The EndSars massacre and the recent unprecedented electoral fraud orchestrated on the people have triggered a cascade of probing questions among the citizens. The youths in particular now wonder if they are of any value in the country they call their own.

While many were still wondering why the victims of EndSars massacre are yet to get justice, the biggest electoral malpractice was occasioned on the people. It was a broad day robbery and the perpetrators didn't even bother to cover their tracks.  Conversations are therefore around the impunity. Why haven't they been brought to book? why wasn't the election cancelled? Is there no voice for the voiceless?

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the missing rib. While he was out there, he always came handy is situations like this. He is the inspiration the youths crave. The voice in the deep. A game changer whose operations bring the government to board.

Held in solitary confinement, his voice is caged and the common man emasculated. If the youths would stage any meaningful engagement, then they'd better demand Kanu's release, for him alone is the needed catalyst.

Nnamdi Kanu, a Prisoner of Conscience

Nnamdi Kanu, a Prisoner of Conscience

By Ofor Princewill Akubumma | Biafra Writers

June 26, 2023

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)

It is now exactly two years since the Nigerian government abducted, tortured and kept Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in solitary confinement of the Nigerian secret police, DSS, cell in Abuja.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a British-Nigerian activist, was kidnapped by the Nigerian authorities in connivance with Kenyan government on June 18, 2021, at the parking lot of the Jomo Kenyatta International airport, Kenya, where he went for a medical check up.

He was taken to a private residence, chanined on  the bare floor, tortured in the most inhumane manner for days, blindfolded and subsequently flown in a private jet back to Nigeria on handcuffs like a common criminal.

On arrival to Nigeria, he was taken to the detention cells of the Department of State Security, DSS, in Abuja the Nigerian capital where he is being subjected to all manners of torture and inhumane treatment ever since. As a result, he developed a severe ear infection and other countless ailments in the solitary confinement he was kept, culminating in continual deterioration of health every passing day. Even at this, he is denied access to his personal doctors.

Irrespective of the fact that he was extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria from Kenya, a crime on itself that contravenes the laws of cross border arrest and arbitrary detention, the Nigerian government has refused to obey their own court order which had earlier discharged and acquited him back in October of 2022 by a federal appeal court in the country.

Moreover, aside the court rulings that freed him after all the frivolous 15 count charges levelled against him were squashed by his legal team, a UN working group, after studying the situation surrounding his abduction and rendition, also ordered that he should be released, yet the Nigerian authorities refused to obey any of these orders.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu leads a movement that is seeking an independent state of Biafra from Nigeria on the grounds of gross marginalization and lack of inclusiveness of the Biafran in the scheme of things in a federal Nigeria. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, that he leads is legally registered in over 88 countries in the world, and are going about their agitation in the most peaceful manner since its inception in 2014. IPOB is a massive freedom movement of over 60 million followers both at home and in diaspora.

Being a peaceful movement that believes in the rule of law, Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB have exploited every options in getting justice for their detained leader as they kept pushing for an independent Biafra state through referendum. Sadly however, the Nigerian government keeps flouting court orders.

If we are law abiding country, the court order that acquitted Kanu should have been respected - Senator Shehu Sani

If we are law abiding country, the court order that acquitted Kanu should have been respected - Senator Shehu Sani

June 9, 2023 | The Biafra Times

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has expressed concern about the continuous incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Senator Sani, who spoke on Thursday while featuring on a Channels Television program, stated that he had stayed in prison for a long time, and would for no reason support the Federal Government’s action of keeping the separatist despite a court order.

According to him, if the country was law-abiding, the order of the court acquitting Kanu should have been respected.

As a prisoner who has stayed so long in prison, there is no way a person like me will support an open breach of the Constitution and a violation of fundamental human rights.

A court has given an order for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and if we are a law-abiding country and committed to the rule of law, we should respect the law.

One of the problems we have in Nigeria today is the separatist agitation in the South Eastern part of Nigeria. If you go to the background of all those separatists, you will see that there was a time in their history when they believed in the indivisibility of the country. Something must have happened along the way,” he said

You lied! Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not getting proper medical attention - IPOB thunders

IPOB PRESS STATEMENT

FEBRUARY 11, 2023 | THE BIAFRA TIMES

The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the able Leader; Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the insulting and provoking statement credited to the infamous DSS agents that Mazi Nnamdi KANU is being properly taken care of inside their dungeon by the lawless DSS criminal agency.

Again, we want Biafrans, Nigerians, and the International Community  to know that Nigerian Department of State Services (DSS) has continued to deny Mazi Nnamdi Kanu access to his personal doctor as ordered by the court, and has not provided him with his medical records either. He is not being provided with his prescription medication regularly. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still being starved because his feeding has also not improved. According to IPOB lawyer, Barr. Ejiofor and others who visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra on Thursday the 9th of February 2023, there is no improvement in his deteriorating health condition. Our leader's health is deteriorating daily inside DSS solitary confinement, while DSS continues to defy the judgment and legitimate orders of courts of competent jurisdiction.

The spurious claim therefore by the lawless DSS that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is properly being taken care of medically, is not just an insult to the sensibilities of Biafrans, but very provocative as well.

IPOB has maintained a peaceful and nonviolent stance in our movement and struggle to restore Biafra, and we intend to continue the peaceful agitation for a Biafra Independence referendum. But this peaceful struggle will not be guaranteed if anything happens to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the DSS dungeon. If anything untoward happens to our leader in the hands of the Nigeria government and DSS, it will be a tit for tat towards any individual, group, and institution that is involved in the kidnap and extraordinary rendition of our leader from Kenya to Nigeria and much much more.

We have consistently urged and demanded that the Nigeria government should stop its flagrant disregard to Court orders and judgements ordering the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally such as that given by the Abuja Appeal Court, or return Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Kenya as ordered by the Umuahia High Court but the Nigerian government has continued to ignore this demand and is rather making a mockery of the Judiciary.

We are putting the world and every country and organization remotely interested in the affairs of Nigeria on notice that keeping mute  at this level of injustice being mated out in particular to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Mazi Nnamdi KANU and generally to the Biafran people, will certainly precipitate an disorderly implosion of the contraption called Nigeria.

Once again we call on the American government and her Embassy, British government and her High Commissioner in Abuja, Russia government and her Embassy in Abuja, Israeli government and her Embassy in Abuja, German government and her Embassy in Abuja, Canadian government and her Embassy in Abuja, Australia government and her Embassy in Abuja, UN Office in Abuja, AU office in Abuja, ECOWAS office in Abuja, EU Office in Abuja, Amnesty International Nigeria, Human Rights Watch, Intersociety in Nigeria, and other reputable Human Rights Organisations to prevail on the Nigeria government to understand the urgency and imparativeness of releasing Mazi Nnamdi KANU forthwith and unconditionally so that he can properly attend to his deteriorating health situation and avoid the very dire consequences that is staring all of us in the face.

Biafra: Kill Kanu And Even A Cat Will Not Survive

Biafra: Kill Kanu And Even A Cat Will Not Survive

By Eluwa Chidiebere Chinazu | Biafra Writers

January 29, 2023

In a bid to get back at Kanu for waking the psyche of Nigerian youths, Kanu is misunderstood by some quarters. Some see him as representing only the Igbo, and this somehow have them desiring his death. In reality however, Kanu is about every oppressed people of Nigeria, and not just one ethnic nationality.

Psychologically, Kanu has become incontestably a cancer that has eaten deep into the heart of the Nigerian citizens. For instance, hidden truths in Nigeria were all exposed by Kanu. These are secrets that no one dared to touch, but Kanu, a fearless man, busted it all, winning for himself, the heart of the Nigerian youths.

For example, how will you convince the Hausa people to hate a man who taught them their history and gave them hope of regaining their lost land? Will you tell a Yoruba person to join you in crucifying an innocent man whose only crime was telling them the truth of how their ancestors failed to the trick of the Fulani race by fighting against their own blood, Afonja. The Middle Belt is still counting their losses till date because they fought against the innocent Biafra.

The stubborn Igbo race doesn't play with the life of any of their sons. Hurting the Igbo race will be suicidal given the fact that they are the only race found everywhere in Nigeria and around the world. Should this race decide to toe the part of violence, even heaven can never be their limit.

The Kraken is about to be released. The military will be overwhelmed by the rage of the people. Martin Luther King Jr’s death consequences will be a caricature to what is about to befall Nigeria.

Kanu only spoke on Radio Biafra to awaken the consciousness of the Nigerian youths and the aftermath was the peaceful EndSars protest that nearly crumbled the country even as Biafrans distanced themselves. Imagine a violent uprising that the Great Biafrans are part of. Just like the British soldiers sang "The World Turned Around," Nigerian soldiers shall.

When this fire lights, no corner will be left unscathed. Even the cat that has nine lives will be swallowed alive. By then there will be nothing left of Nigeria.

Is Kanu Really Being Released to Disrupt Obi’s Election?

Is Kanu Really Being Released to Disrupt Obi’s Election?

By Nelson Ofokar Yagazie | Biafra Times

October 25, 2022

The assumption that the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is being released to disrupt Peter Obi's political ambition is both evil and crass. Maybe in the anemic permutations of those pushing this narrative, to achieve their political desires an innocent man has to remain in illegal detention.

That you do not share in Kanu convictions is not an enough reason to project the sordid. And this, I have observed, is the trouble with one-Nigerianists. Always willing to suffocate law and order to achieve their goals.

Before the Obi ambition, there is IPOB agitation, and before the clamour for Igbo presidency, there has been Biafra freedom quest. If one has to give way for the other, which should therefore? But both have been running on parallel lines. Why stepping out of your track to stifle the other? Not as if you can, though.

Nnamdi Kanu doesn't stop anyone from exercising his franchise, nor does he shortchange your vote cast. It's still Nigerian government in collusion with your INEC that disenfranchise you by limiting your voters registration through supply of non-functional equipment in the Southeast and South-southern regions, and booting Igbos out from registration units in Lagos and other Southwestern states.

It's still Nigerian government that use thugs and even corrupt security operatives to disrupt voting on election days and thereafter, either coerce or bribe INEC officials into doctoring of results. And when that is not sufficient, ply the Supreme Court route as typified by the Imo state gubernatorial showdown. Wherefore is Kanu the arbiter?

If Kanu doesn't believe in Nigerian political process, then it's general, and not targeted against a particular candidate as mischief makers tend to project. And his convictions are his fundamental right, one shouldn’t forget.

What even forms the idea? Are they releasing Kanu to fight Obi and the Attorney General of the federation, Malami, is strongly opposing the court ruling, stating in clear terms his unwillingness to let Kanu off the hook? By the way, is an Attorney General not supposed to be neutral on cases? But here in Nigeria is an Attorney General taking sides, even opposing court ruling ...reason Nigeria is described as a Zoo.

By the way, is Obi even a threat to Northern Hegemony? The Fulani oligarchy is in firm control of INEC and every other electoral apparatus in Nigeria. While you sweat under the sun to caste vote, they announce who they please. What do you do? What did you do in the Uzodima/Ihedioha Supreme Court saga? Murmur and move on. That's all.

And if we are to take our analysis a step further, why was Kanu abducted and incarcerated in the first place? Because he is agitating for an independent state of Biafra, everyone would answer. Has he stopped agitating? No! Will he ever stop? No! So when he walks away from detention, what is he expected to do? Continue his agitation from where he stopped. So will the Fulani oligarchy running Nigerian government willingly release him to continue pushing for a separate state of Biafra from Nigeria therefore?

Isn't Igbo presidency or better put, Obi's presidency, a much lesser evil to them? So will they release him to orchestrate the bigger evil then? Your guess is as good as mine. And by now, I believe, you would have figured out why I said that you are not only being evil but crass as well in the assumption that Nnamdi Kanu is being released to disrupt the Obi’s election.

Nnamdi Kanu: Court of appeal ruling is final, stop being a clown - IPOB to Malami

October 19, 2022 | The Biafra Times

IPOB PRESS STATEMENT

MALAMI, STOP CHASING  THE SHADOW OF IGBO GOVERNORS AND POLITITCIANS AND FOCUS ON THE SUBSTANCE OF  THE COURT OF APPEAL  JUDGEMENT ON MAZI NNAMDI KANU

The attention of the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership and command of the great liberator and prophet Mazi Nnamdi KANU has been drawn to the unintelligent, disgraceful and incoherent  statements credited to the Attorney General Alhaji Abubakar Malami to the effect that the Igbo Governors and politicians will decide whether Mazi Nnamdi KANU will be released unconditionally.

What a clownish statement from the chief law officer of Nigeria , a SAN for that matter who should know better. Such illogical statements from the Nigerian government and its officials is one among many justifications for calling Nigeria the ZOOLOGICAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.

IPOB believes that these Igbo Governors and polititcians that Malami want to turn into a reviewing panel of the judgement of a competent court of Jurisdiction the Court of Appeal know the game and evil intention of the AGF and will certainly not fall for his *Greek poison* parkaged in the deceptive form of making them relevant. IPOB can confidently posit that these governors and politicians are more intelligent than the fulani quota system Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation. This fulani terrorists sponsoring Government think that their divide and conquer tactics will work for them this time around in their attempt to try and shift the responsibility of the continued illegal incarceration of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra on the governors and politicians of South East extraction. Their agenda to create confusion and more problems in Igboland won't  work. We will not allow them to do this again to our people.

IPOB wants to ask Malami when did Igbo Governors and politicians become a Court of superior mandate in Nigeria to decide if Mazi Nnamdi Kanu our Leader will be released unconditionally or not after the Appeal Court the second highest Court of competent jurisdiction has made a well reasoned ruling  already. It seems Malami does not have the buckle to approach the Supreme Court now that the Aeroplane turner is no longer in charge hence the desire to supplant and foreclose that channel with trying to implicate governors and politicians of South East origin. Igbo Governors and politicians should understand this gimmick before going to any meeting that the Caliphate Government will call them to. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was discharged and acquitted by the Appeals Court not by Igbo governors and politicians. But if any Igbo Governor or Polititian choose to be a willing tool and a useful idiot of the Caliphate, let that soul take over the responsibility of deciding if OHAMADIKE will be released or not. We dare that individual or group.

Malami and APC Government must release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally as declared by the Appeal Court and recommended by the UN Human Rights Working Group without delay because he committed no crime known to either Local or International law.

Malami have been releasing terrorists from prison without taking them to court but have decided to play a demy god by this attempt to disregard and disobey the judgement of the Court  of Appeal, as it has ignored the opinion of the UN Human Rights Working Group.

We are still wondering how this kind of individual became a lawyer let alone become the Attorney General of a supposed democratic Nation. If an Attorney General of a Nation who is supposed to uphold the Justice system in a constitutional democracy is the one destroying the rule of Law, then Nigerians are  in a big political mess with these kind of government officials saddled with immense responsibility of governance and upholding the law.

Malami, your flagrant disobedience to the Appeals Court and UN Human Rights Working Group rulings and opinions respectively on the issue of the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi KANU will secure you a room in ICC jail in the future. If you think MAZI NNAMDI KANU or IPOB will surrender or retreat, you're just dreaming.

If you're not careful, the BIAFRA project and Mazi Nnamdi KANU will consume you and your collaborators because we have the backing of the Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama.

Kanu's Trial: Court fixes October 27 for ruling on 'unlawful' extradition

• As lawyer seeks ₦25B compensation for Kanu's human rights violation

October 4, 2022

Lawson Ozoemela | The Biafra Times

An Umuahia division of the Federal High Court, Abia State, Tuesday, entertained the 'extraordinary rendition' suit of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The suit initiated by Kanu's special counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, sought among others, the court's declaration that the "expulsion" of his client from Kenya to Nigeria remained "illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional and amounts to infringement of the applicant's fundamental human rights".

The applicant's counsel prayed the court to mandate the respondents; the federal government of Nigeria (FG), and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), to restore the IPOB leader to his liberty as he was prior to his apprehension on June 19, 2021; stating that the government of Nigeria could formally apply to Britain for Kanu's lawful extradition, subsequently.

In his address to the court, Ejimakor cited that the applicant did undergo physical, mental, emotional, psychological, and property damages; thus requesting the court to compel the respondents pay the sum of twenty-five billion naira (₦25,000,000,000) to Kanu for compensation.

Reacting, counsel to the federal government, Simon Enoch argued that part of the applicant's prayers had been decided by a jurisdictional court; while he pleaded for more time to respond to others.

At the conclusion of the oral arguments, the presiding justice Evelyn Anyadike adjourned proceedings until October 27, for final ruling.

NNAMDI KANU IS NOT GOING TO COURT, NEITHER DID HE ORDER ANY "SIT AT HOME ON 4TH, OCTOBER, 2022,

October 1, 2022 | The Biafra Times

For the purpose of clarification, the Fundamental Rights Suit, filed on behalf of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court Umuahia, Abia State, is scheduled for Ruling on jurisdictional issues raised suo motu by the Court, on the 4th day of October, 2022.

Let the members of the general public be properly informed and appropriately guided, that we have the firm instruction of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to inform the public, lovers of freedom and UmuChineke, that Onyendu will not be coming to Court on the 4th day of October, 2022.

As such, Onyendu neither directed, approved nor authorized anyone to declare a sit-at-home on that date.

Members of the general public are advised to go about their normal business activities on this said date. This clarification has become compelling and necessary, in view of the avalanche of misleading information on the social media, and plethora of calls I have received from concerned UmuChineke to this effect.

We have assured UmuChineke that we shall inform you any time Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is scheduled to appear in Court.

It is to be noted too, that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has several suits pending against the Federal Government of Nigeria, her agencies and officials, in various courts across the Country. For instance, the main Suit challenging the extraordinary rendition of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, filed before the Federal High Court Abuja, against the Federal Republic of Nigeria & Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/462/2022, and the Suit challenging the constitutionality or otherwise of the 2022 Practice Direction on the trial of terrorism offences, filed against the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court & Anor, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/550/2022, are equally coming up for Hearing next week, before Hon. Justice Ekwo of Court No. 5, Federal High Court Abuja.

However, kindly note that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, still NEVER APPROVED nor AUTHORIZED that on the said dates, the members of the general public be directed to sit at home.

Please let us be properly and adequately guided. This should be a period for serious circumspection and focus, we should not allow those who have no interest of the present fate of Onyendu to derail us.

Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi KANU is passing through his present ordeal because of his earnest desire to emancipate his people from any form of suffering or oppression, there is therefore, no way he will support anything that will bring more hardship on the same people he is suffering for.

Thank you all, UmuChineke and remain blessed.

NIGERIA COURT MUST PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF HER JUDICIARY, ORDER KANU'S UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE - IPOB

NIGERIA COURT MUST PROTECT THE SANCTITY OF THE INSTITUTION OF JUDICIARY BY ORDERING FOR THE UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU - IPOB

September 30, 2022|The Biafra Times

We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of the great liberator and prophet Mazi Nnamdi KANU wish to state unequivocally, that the rendition of the IPOB leader from Kenya to Nigeria since June last year till date is a violation of his fundamental rights.

Abinitio, we wish to place it on record that the criminal abduction, torture, illegal detention and unlawful transfer of great Leader- Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria constitutes a natural bar to any prosecution or his further detention in DSS solitary confinement.

Extraordinary rendition is a serious crime under international law. No civilized nation in the world, more so, those under common law system of justice, condone kidnapping and extrajudicial transfer of suspects across international borders, without the authority of law grounded in an extradition process.

Nigeria court must protect sanctity of the institution of judiciary by ordering for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on the face of the violations of international and local laws by Nigeria Government in the abduction and extraordinary rendition of our great leader and prophet Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

A plethora of judicial pronouncements from the US to Canada, UK, New Zealand, Australia and even South Africa under the apartheid regime, are uniform in their condemnation of extraordinary rendition.

Ironically, the present Attorney General of Nigeria, is also against Extraordinary rendition but it appears only so, when it concerns people from his Fulani tribe like the one concerning his dubious officer ACP Abba Kyari who America intelligence demanded from Nigeria to US. This Government hypocritical stance was demonstrated in the case of disgraced/suspended ACP Abba Kyari, who was allowed to undergo extradition proceedings in Abuja to contest a US warrant of arrest issued against him. But our Leader being of the Igbo ethnic stock was denied the same due process of law in Nairobi Kenya.

If an obnoxious regime like the erstwhile apartheid regime in South Africa can be compelled by their own apartheid Appeal Court in Pretoria, to recognize the illegality of Extraordinary rendition, we therefore implore Nigerian Courts here in Abuja to prevail upon the present regime to release our great Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without further hesitation or delay.

Nigerian Government can amend and prefer new charges from now till thy kingdom come, the fact of the matter remains that no court in Nigeria has the authority or jurisdiction to try our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Nigerian Government is in material breach of a plethora of laws and conventions both municipal and international. Nigerian Court must send an unequivocal message that Executive lawlessness and prosecutorial banditry cannot be tolerated in a constitutional democracy as pretentiously practice in Nigeria.

The image maker of IPOB wish to let public know that Abubakar Malami lied under oath.

Malami and APC Government are in a mess for perjuring themselves in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's matter. Imagine an Attorney General that doesn’t know the law he is meant to be a Chief Law Officer of Nigeria. Malami lied and has persisted in these lies by pleading charges that did not meet the requirements of SEC. 195 of their Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). This is perjury contrary to SEC. 117 of the Criminal Code Act which state that: Any person, in any judicial proceedings, or for the purposes of instituting any judicial proceeding, knowingly gives false testimony touching any matter which is material to any question then pending in that proceedings, or intended to be raised in that proceedings, is guilty of an offence which is called perjury”.

By levying the following charges, none of which contains date, time and place of where the alleged offence was committed, the mandatory legal requirement to ensure its total compliance, was flagrantly disregarded by Malami in the breach of SEC. 196 of ACJA.

Unfortunately, Justice Binta Nyako saw this but her maternal instinct to protect her husband and son facing sham corruption charges and the wider interest of her Fulani tribe to maintain a stranglehold on the lives of other ethnic groups in Nigeria led her to pervert the course of justice in her refusal to dismiss all the charges.

We insist that our great Leader Mazi Nnnamdi Kanu should be released unconditionally without Further delay/ hesitation

Amid deteriorating health SSS denies Kanu food, medical attention - Lawyer

Amid deteriorating health SSS denies Kanu food, medical attention - Lawyer

September 23, 2022

By Lawson Ozoemela | The Biafra Times

ABUJA - Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Nnamdi Kanu has bemoaned the "flagrant disobedience" of court orders by Nigeria's secret police, the State Security Service (SSS), in denying his client proper medical service.

In a press statement, following a court-ordered periodic visitation, Thursday by a team of Kanu's lawyer; Ejiofor said the IPOB leader, who has been in the SSS facility for over 14 months, had not eaten anything for the past two days owing to the worsening state of his health.

The legal practitioner said rather than have Onyendu [Kanu] be given substandard drugs, SSS officials should "allow us have Onyendu back unconditionally, or better still, allow us to purchase the prescribed drugs for Onyendu pending his unconditional release from their custody".

The statements reads thus:

UPDATE ON OUR ROUTINE VISIT TO OUR INDEFATIGABLE CLIENT - ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU AT THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE SERVICES (DSS) ABUJA, TODAY, BEING THE 22ND DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2022:

As usual, the Court-Ordered routine visit to  our indefatigable Client - Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was conducted today, at the DSS Headquarters Abuja, where Onyendu is still being held in solitary confinement for over 14 months.

Today’s visit was centered on our curiosity to ascertain the DSS level of compliance with providing Onyendu the requisite medical treatment that would address his deteriorating health condition.

Sadly, we made startling discovery that despite the alarm raised on Monday, calling for the intervention of responsible foreign Governments and institutions, on the DSS flagrant disobedience of Orders of Court, particularly in denying Onyendu access to his personal medical doctor and medication, the lawless DSS immediately resorted to local chemist store to procure substandard drugs to be administered on Onyendu.

Since it is now obvious that the DSS does not have the facility, capacity and/or resources to manage Onyendu’s deteriorating health condition, we are compelled  to publicly implore the DSS, to allow us have Onyendu back unconditionally, or better still, allow us to purchase the prescribed drugs for Onyendu pending his unconditional release from their custody.

May we also seize this medium to inform the World that Onyendu has not eaten anything in the past 48 hours due to the concomitant excruciating pains occasioned by his gastro intestine disorder, which the DSS have deliberately failed to avail him with the prescribed possible medical relief.

With this development, we are now convinced that the Federal Government of Nigeria is ostensibly afraid of the anticipated positive outcome of the Court of Appeal's judgement. Hence, they are doing everything possible to subject our Client - Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to severe torture, and inhuman/degrading treatment before he finally regains his freedom. But, be assured that this strategy is dead on arrival.

Nevertheless, we assure you, UmuChineke, that our defense team eminently led by the indefatigable Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, is not relenting in all actions we are taking to correct this anomaly and to put to a halt, this seemingly impunity and lawlessness being brazenly exhibited by the DSS.

Forward ever and backward never, UmuChineke.

Thank you all, Ezigbo UmuChineke and remain blessed, even as you continue to remain law abiding.

We appreciate you all.

We move!

IPOB Trial: FG agrees 'kidnapping' Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya

IPOB Trial: FG agrees 'kidnapping' Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya

• Appellate court adjourns 'sine die' for judgement

September 14, 2022 | The Biafra Times

ABUJA – Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu Tuesday dragged the federal government of Nigeria to Court of Appeal, owing to the remaining seven-count terrorism-related offences leveled against him.

Recall that, Trial Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High Court had quashed eight (8) out of fifteen (15) amended charges. On the other hand, dismissed the bail application of the accused.

In the proceedings, Justice (Ms.) Jummai Hannatu Sakey of the three-man appellate judges annulled the motion of accelerated hearing, filed by the appellant, noting that same had been overtaken by events since the matter was ripe for hearing.

The appellant's counsels led by Mike Ozekhome, SAN, prayed (that) the said seven-count charge were related and intertwined with the former, dismissed by the lower court; asking that the latter should follow suit. In furtherance of the appeal, in the case of 'extraordinary rendition,' Ozekhome cited Extradition Act Cap E25 LFN 2004; that the trial court lacks jurisdiction to try the accused.

Presiding Justice Sakey posed a query to the respondent - federal government of Nigeria (FG) - legally represented by Mr David Kasuwe, with respect to extradition of the IPOB leader. The respondent, however, affirmed the rendition processes embedded in the laws of extradition in Nigeria were not put into effect.

The intermediate court did set aside the bail application of the appellant [Kanu] pending ultimate ruling; however, stated that judgment would be served as soon as possible.

"If the charges are incompetent, then no need for bail as the charges shall be struck out. If the charges are competent, then court shall rule on the bail, granting or denying," the court ruled.

Subsequently, the court adjourned (sine die) with no appointed date, but would communicate with both parties in relation to a new date.

However, November 14 remains the date for substantive trial affixed by the lower court.

Kanu's Trial: Court trashes 8 of 15 count-charge against IPOB leader

Hears bail application

Journalists blocked from media coverage

By Chikwas Onu Ikpe | The Biafra Times

April 8, 2022

An Abuja division of the Federal High Court Friday quashed eight (8) amid fifteen (15) count-charge leveled against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Trial justice Binta Nyako, delivering ruling on the preliminary objections against the fifteen (15) count-charge, case No: FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015, dismissed counts 6,7,9,10,11,12,14, stating that the struck-out charges did not call for trial due to its duplication and failure to disclose vital elements of the alleged offences.

The judge held; "In this instant preliminary objection application, I have read the counts, and counts 6,7,9,10,11, 12,13, 14 have not disclosed any offence.
Counts 1, 2,3,4,5, 8,15 shows some allegations. So, the court shall proceed to try the defendant on those counts.

Justice Nyako further stated that since there had been a bench warrant - to arresting the IPOB leader - renditioning the defendant for the purpose of criminal investigation was allowed.

In count-three alleging Kanu being the leader of a terrorist organisation; in that case, IPOB, the defendant had argued the case was pending before an appellate court. However, the judge maintained that IPOB remained proscribed until the court of appeal says otherwise.

Toward the proceeding, Kanu's team of lawyers led by a Senior Advocate, Mike Ozekhome prayed the court to grant him bail on health grounds, in an application filed before the court.

"Even if it means subjecting him to certain conditions," Ozekhome begged the court to free his client. "Nnamdi Kanu’s health is deteriorating. He should be alive to stand trial. That is why the law would say, 'come and stand trial'. Come and stand trial means (you have) to be well, Hale and hearty. It didn't say come and sit down trial; or come and lie down trial, or come and prostrate trial."

Clarifying what happened regarding Kanu's disappearance, the learned Silk submitted that Kanu almost got killed during a military invasion in his hometown; that was why he fled.

Meanwhile, journalists were barred from media coverage, and recordings of IPOB leader's trial. This was following a press statement credited to the chief judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho. The latter said terrorism-related proceedings would be conducted in secret except when he [Tsoho] grants permission for media coverage.

It further reads that "only the judges; other essential court staff and security agencies involved in the particular case and their vehicles shall have access to the court premises."

Tsoho said in any proceedings the court deems necessary to ensure the safety and or to protect the identity of the victim or witness, may hold its proceedings at any place to be designated by the chief judge with the Code of Conduct Tribunal as the venue for the time being.

"The names, addresses, telephone numbers and identity of the victims of such offences or witnesses in the proceedings shall not be disclosed in any record or report of the proceedings and it shall be sufficient to designate the names of the victims or witnesses with a combination of alphabets," said the chief judge of the court.

Whereas, the presiding judge adjourned until May 18, 26 for ruling on bail application, and continuation of substantive trial.
