The Dicey Ends of the Truce between IPOB and Ohaneze Ndigbo

Just recently the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Apex Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, mended fences. The news is however making the rounds that Ohanaeze is dreaming of Igbo president come 2023. Ohanaeze, in a statement by its spokesman, Chuks Ibegbu, noted that given the mood of the nation today, an Igbo will hopefully succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The Supreme Leader of the Indigenous of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has already warned Ohanaeze to retrace its steps. Taking to his Facebook page, Kanu wrote, “Before they start saying we have insulted anybody, could those who are clamouring for their turn to loot please conduct a plebiscite to understand the wishes of our people before coming out to make these pronouncements. We did not die for one-Niggeria Zoo presidency. Some of these people are now making the same mistakes that Azikiwe made in the past. They never ever learn.”

That IPOB made peace with Ohaneze is a good development, but considering the mindset of average Nigerian politician, the situation now is pregnant. For example, other nationalities might think that it is all about Igbo president all along. Maybe IPOB and Ohanaeze have been on the plan from onset. This will kill off IPOB totally.

What if Ohanaeze is playing double agent? Yes, we should begin to ask ourselves why they made such statement now everybody knows that they have made peace with IPOB. Ohanaeze can be saying something else to calm IPOB down and to make it look as if they have come back to their senses but secretly go to Abuja to brag that IPOB is now under their control, using it to solicit for Igbo presidency.

The ever thoughtful IPOB members will see it that Ohanaeze is trying to cripple IPOB with their statements because everything Ohanaeze says from the moment the news of their peacemaking with IPOB broke out is believed to be in tandem with the decisions of IPOB, unless the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, comes out to lift the ban on people attacking Ohanaeze.

If Ohanaeze fails to live up to expectation with this last chance given to them, they will be classified as saboteurs and that which befalls every saboteur in history will befall them.
