The echo of freedom keeps resonating in the land of Ugep as IPOB family there defies all intimidations to match peacefully around the town of Ugep, sensitizing the people and raising the spirit of the weak.

This is the first of its kind in Cross River State since the current wave of Biafra restoration hit the land. It was indeed a very exciting moment for the people of Ugep in Yakurr LGA of Cross River State.

The peaceful rally recorded a huge turnout with the enthusiastic crowd chanting “Holy, Holy, Holy, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a freedom fighter.” They waved the lovely Red, Black and Green Biafran flag as they marched, the embedded rising sun in the glorious flag attesting to the light Biafra bears to Africa.

Although some misguided youths attempted to disrupt the procession, the group trudged on, covering the major areas of Ugep.

It was indeed a remarkable moment of victory for IPOB family in Ugep.

Echo of Freedom in Calabar as Radio Biafra Wave Hits the City on 102.1 FM

The true characteristic of a good leader is hearkening to the yearnings of his followers. The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra has always given attention to the plights of the people, the enormous tasks the body is engaged in internationally notwithstanding. The leadership ensures that the demands of every indigenous people in line with the struggle for freedom have always been met.

Calabar, homeland of the Efiks, is agog with the new sound coming from the airwaves. Radio Biafra 102.1 Frequency Modulatio, yesterday, 16th July 2020, saturated the air at midday.

The people of Calabar were very jubilant, indicative of the fact that IPOB have created an indelible footprint on Efik soil. One of the jubilant folks, Mr. Friday, sent his gratitude to the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, explaining that the Biafran leader has through the radio project ensured that the message of freedom gets to the grassroots.  Mr. Friday prayed God to protect Kanu and to endow him with more wisdom.

The IPOB family in Calabar heartily appreciates Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for living up to his promises.

Long live Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
Long live IPOB Cross River State
Long live Mother Biafra

The acting coordinator of the area, Chief Udom, who was appointed the chairman of the elder’s forum, Abi LGA, expressed his gratitude for the long-awaited visit from the state EXCOS and the mobilizing team. He told the state team how the people of Abi have longed for such a time they could be identified with the state body. He recalled his ordeals during the genocidal war visited upon Biafra, highlighting numerous reasons Cross River State would continue to be part of Biafra despite the ignorance and misinformation being spread by gullible indigenes.

The state coordinator gave special thanks to the formidable indigenous people of the land for embracing IPOB and its fight for the restoration of Biafra. Nigerians on Tuesday shunned the 59th Independence Anniversary in Cross River State

October 4, 2019 | The Biafra Times

By Edem Edem

  • Nigerians in Cross River State on Tuesday shunned the 59th Independence Anniversary.

DAILY POST correspondent, who was at the U. J. Esuene Stadium, venue for the celebration, observed that the greater part of the stadium was empty.

However, the Nigeria Police, primary and secondary schools as well as some private organization including the red cross, boys brigades, girls guides, and others participated in the event.

Also present were the Deputy Governor, Prof Ivara Esu, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Eteng Jonah Williams, Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Michael Edem, Chief of Staff to Governor Ayade Martins Orim and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr Tina Banku Agbor.

Speaking, the State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade who was represented by his deputy, Prof Ivara Ejemot Esu said, “Instructively, as we celebrate today, we cannot say with absolute conviction that, 59 years down the line, it has been a bed of roses.

“At best, it has been a potpourri, at times chequered, disappointing, hard and fraught with challenges that so often dulled our spirits. In spite of those dispirited moments though, there have been sparkling times that we have radiated so much national pride as a people, following our chain of accomplishments as a nation.

“And against all odds, we have continued to bounce back, to rediscover ourselves by staying focused, steadfast and optimistic. Conscious of the fact that no nation has ever berthed on a roller coaster or fulfilled its destiny without sweat, we cannot, therefore, as a country, afford to take our eyes off the ball.”

Prof Ayade pointed out that “today’s anniversary marks another turning point as we continue to soldier on with audacity of hope, a refreshing optimism and the spirit of enterprise.

“And with our minds firmly fixed on the ever-glittering skyline, we shall sure chart a pathway to our destination. More poignantly, today’s celebration should no doubt serve as reawakening and an enticing platform to reflect on our past in order to recalibrate our future.

“As we ruminate on our nation’s socio-political trajectory-the tall mountains we have had to climb, the steep slopes we have to descend, I want to enjoin you to remain resolute by re-committing and re-dedicating ourselves to the enduring values and vision that distinguish us as truly Cross Riverians.

“For it is only by such distinguishing attributes that we can achieve true independence as a people, one that will guarantee true freedom, good governance and total emancipation in the real sense of it.

“There is no doubt that while our today is steadily finding perfect harmony with our great expectations as a people, with our rapid industrialization policy, we remain highly optimistic that given our great energy and potentials to flourish, we will and surely weave our determination to precision and berth a better tomorrow.”

Prof Ayade further said that “As we advance closer and closer to attaining that tomorrow of our dreams, we need not only align, but must pull together, to shrug off tendencies and avoid structures that accentuate our fault lines.

“As an administration, we came with a clear focus to restructure and recalibrate the economy of our state. In line with that emphasis, we have been able to create a new economy that is anchored on industrialization and agricultural development with a huge potential to create jobs and lift our people out of excruciating poverty.

“For us as an administration, we shall not relent until we ensure that every Cross Riverinas is indeed rescued and clawed back from the socio-economic quagmire that has held us captive to hunger and lack.”

The Fate of Cross River State in a Restored Biafra Nation

July 16, 2019

By Nelson Bond | For Biafra Writers

Cross River State (the people's paradise) is a coastal state located in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, with Calabar as its capital, is a land endowed with bountiful natural resources, rain forest, tour sites, and rich cultural heritage; a land of true hospitality and peace; a land full of different ethnic groups, traditions and languages such as Efik, Ejagham, Yakurr, Bette, Yala, Igede, and Ukelle.

The state was created in May 1967. Cross River State occupies a total area of 20,156km2 (7,782 sq) and has a population of about 3,737,517. Created from the former eastern region (Biafra) by Gen. Yakubu Gowon regime, the present day Akwa Ibom State was exited from it in the state creation exercise of September 1987 by the then regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.  Its capital city is Calabar which also served as the first capital territory of Nigeria. Other major cities in Cross River include Akampka, Ugep, Obubura, Ikom, and Ogoja.

Ogoja is one of the oldest provinces of Nigeria, and by right should have been declared a State. The failure to declare Ogoja a state is seen by the people of the area as a deliberate attempt to deny the people of Cross River State the opportunities for speedy development due to the vast land mass the current state encompasses.

The state from time immemorial has been an integral part of Biafra and would continue to be as seen in the role the people of the region played during the Nigeria/Biafra war. The spirit of oneness inherent in the people of Cross River asserted itself as they teamed up with their brothers in the hinterland to function as one family during the war.

In the three years of war that Biafra existed, people of Cross River occupied sensitive positions in Biafra government. For instance, Gen. Philip Effiong was the Deputy Head of State, while Dr. N. U Akpan was the Head of Government Affairs.

In 1975, barely five years behind the war, the Nigerian military visited genocide upon Cross River, killing, raping and burning down houses in Ugep. The sustained government crimes and marginalization against the people of Cross River left them no choice than to ask for the restoration of Biafra.

In a free state of Biafra, the people of Cross River are certain to enjoy safety, equal rights, justice, employment, and massive infrastructural development. Proper health care would be ensured for the people. Our educational system would become upgraded to Western standard or even more, and our farming mechanized.

It is therefore apparent that the fate of Cross River State will be great and enabling to all the citizens of the land. The people will have a true sense of belonging.

Biafra: General Town Hall Meeting of IPOB Cross River State

June 22, 2019

By Onoja Christian Obinna, Nelson Bond Reporting for IPOB-CRS Calabar Media

Calabar - The just-concluded Cross River State town hall meeting held on 16th June 2019 in the ancient city of Calabar in Biafra-land recorded a huge success with the tremendous turnout from all senatorial zones of the state. The town hall meeting was graced by the national coordinator, the state coordinator, state principal officers, and zonal and unit coordinators.

The town hall meeting was organized with a view to getting clarification on the state’s status as regards IPOB activities. It was also used to lay proper structures of IPOB in the state for the restoration of Biafra.

The National Coordinator charged the house to be in peace and remain focused in the Biafra struggle. He informed the house that Biafra restoration is at hand. He also encouraged the Cross River family to remain resolute, adding that Cross River remains an essential part of Biafra land.

He recalled that the now Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in Calabar had its original name as Presbytery of Biafra when it first arrived at the shores of the old eastern region in 1846. The Presbyterian Church of Biafra became the Presbyterian Church in East Nigeria in 1952. On 16 June 1960, it became the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. He narrated the above to clear the doubt of many who claim that Calabar has never been part of Biafra.

Furthermore, the National Coordinator referenced Margaret Ekpo who although was of Igbo ethnicity, was born and raised in the creek town of Calabar, having an Efik heritage and later married an Ibibio man. Margaret, the National Coordinator detailed, played a vital role in assuring that women become integral part of politics in the first republic. He outlined the culture and traditions the Igbo speaking part of Biafra share with the Cross Riverians, ranging from the foods we eat to the famous Ekpo masquerade.

The Supreme Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, addressed the family through a Whatsapp call. In his speech, Kanu highlighted why Cross River is an integral part of Biafra-land, stressing that he wants indigenes of the state to be at the helm of affairs of IPOB in the state while our brothers and sisters from other parts of Biafra-land would give them support.

He also emphasized that the people of Cross River state should debunk the propaganda of the Igbo being in total control of the leadership of Biafra when it is restored. He gave vivid analysis of the type of government that Biafra nation would run to maintain equity, justice and freedom to the entire citizens of Biafra-land, stressing that Biafra-land would operate a confederation system of government where resources would be controlled by the indigenous people. He urged the people of Cross River to remain fearless, resolute and formidable, announcing to the house that arrangements have been made to install Radio Biafra transmitter before the end of July, 2019.

The Supreme Leader of Biafra noted that it would be a great joy to see Cross River as formidable as Akwa Ibom, urging the people to organize a full rally in the ancient city of Calabar with the indigenous people of Cross River state taking the greater participation in the rally. He as well urged the people of Cross River state to shun every atom of fear in standing up to reclaim what belongs to them which the enemy has stolen and are now using same to subjugate them. Kanu went on to assure the people that no atom of arrest and detention will deter us from restoring Biafra as anyone arrested for the sake of Biafra must surely come out unharmed.

In his closing remark, the Supreme Leader of Biafra charged the family to remain steadfast, adding that the restoration of Biafra is at hand. He also prayed that Chukwu Okike Abiama continue to guide, bless and protect us all from the hands of our enemies until Biafra is fully restored.

The meeting came to a close after the National Coordinator made some appointments of new principal officers to aid in piloting the affairs of IPOB family in the State.

Long live IPOB Family Cross River State!
Long live IPOB Family World Wide!
Long live our Supreme Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu!
