Biafra: I’m in Biafra struggle for my children, grandchildren - 75-year-old agitator

NOVEMBER 3, 2019 | THE BIAFRA TIMES

Mrs Patience Orji, 75, from Anambra State, is a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra. She tells EDWARD NNACHI why she has not given up on the Biafra dream

Why are you a member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, an organisation that has been proscribed by the government?

I have lived in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, with my late husband for over 20 years. I’m a member of IPOB and I’m happy to identify with the group. This is because I have seen what the Nigerian government has done to us in the South-East, most especially women.

What have been done to women?

Recently, there have been reported cases of Fulani herdsmen raping and killing our women. This is barbaric. I am in IPOB because of what Nnamdi Kanu is doing.

At your age, what if there is an issue that requires you to run, how would you cope?

I can’t run because of anything or from anything. It is better for the person chasing me to come and kill me; I won’t run. I can’t run while I’m on this Biafra land.  I’m not into this struggle for myself; I’m doing this for my children and grandchildren. We must be free because they have enslaved us enough. And I don’t think it is proper for a normal human being to be a slave to another.

What do your children and husband think about your engagement with IPOB?

For your information, they all support this cause. How many of them are graduates? Do they have jobs? Aren’t many of them jobless? And why won’t they support anything that will bring joy to them in future? Go to the streets of South-East and tell me what you see. Our graduates and best brains, many of them, are riding Okada (commercial motorcycles) and Keke (commercial tricycles).

But in the North, if you have finished secondary education, you will be on the payroll of the local government. They are using us. All the resources are from Biafra land; they still use our resources for their development while we are suffering here. And if we talk, AK47 would be directed at you.

It appears that you are unhappy with the situation in the country.

Yes, if you are a woman and you go to farm, they will rape and kill you. Their cattle are destroying our farmlands with impunity because their intention is to put us in abject poverty and perpetual suffering. My happiness and confidence come from the assurance that Nnamdi Kanu has given us that we will be free. People call me Mummy Biafra but I don’t care.

Are your husband and children not afraid for you?

They are not afraid. Mind you, my husband is dead and my children don’t bother about how involved I am with the struggle because the actualisation of Biafra someday will benefit them and their unborn children. My son is in Part Harcourt, Rivers State and my daughter is in Enugu. I have a child who is also a journalist. So, they are not afraid for me.

And even if the Biafra dream becomes a reality eventually, you may not be alive to enjoy the expected benefits considering your age, how does that make you feel?

Even if I don’t live to see the expected benefits, I don’t care. However, I’m sure my children will enjoy those benefits and I’m sure they will all get nice jobs. In my grave, I shall be happy. I will beat my chest and say I did it and that Biafra happened because of the sole reason that we believed in it. If those alive at the time would be able to see and enjoy the benefits, then don’t worry about me. That is enough for me.

Poetry: Goodnight Mama Biafra

By Victoria Agangan. O | Biafra Writers
October 26, 2019

Even though you are gone, in our hearts, you remain a queen mother worthy of emulation.

Though you are gone, you came, you saw and you conquered, by giving us a worthy and outstanding leader and by standing by him until your last breath.

You displayed trustworthiness, oh!
Mama Biafra.

I remember your tactical responses to questions about him, during his illegal incarceration.
You encouraged Biafrans, by participating in protests.
What a wonderful mother!

I read that you died of shock, due to the gruesome murder of twenty-eight Biafrans in your compound and presence.

The unworthy Nigerian army had danced the python dance and slaughtered them in cold blood.

Your exit is worrisome and painful.
It is saddening and woeful.
We are in deep sorrow, though we also rejoice in the knowledge that you were there for Biafra, during your last days.

This race will definitely continue and will inevitably be won for your sake and for the sake of everyone else who has ever paid the ultimate price for this divine struggle.

Let the sun lighten the path you travel in, let the moon draw silver lines on your routes.

Sleep on beautiful mother.

Your laurels will be kept forever with Biafra.

Goodnight, Mama Biafra!

Biafra: This Is For The Biafran Women (2)

Victoria .O. C. Agangan | For Biafra  Writers

August 26, 2018

Let us with boldness and one accord face these killing machines of Ohanaeze, weak eastern states governors, and crumpled leaders who swim in their masters' faeces, permitting the uncircumcised herdsmen and their killer squads into our lands.

With zeal, we must roll away this barricade of oddities resigning us to horrible backgrounds. Let us refuse to cook sweet words for the comforts of these backstabbing husbands, brothers and fathers in leadership.  They have dim our sun at noon and has done nothing to abate the spite leashed on our youths.

Our youths are meant to inherit parental properties and privileges but these do not seek to possess heirs, they give away their lineage like Esau regardless of the outcome.
This is a shame, unwelcome and an unacceptable woe that has bedridden our entity.

Enough is enough!
I remember  Margaret Ekpo! I acknowledge the Aba women riot!  in those days of oppression who confronted suppression squarely.

RELATED NEWS: Biafra: This Is For The Biafran Women (1)

Winnie Mandela fought for South Africa liberation.  Let us copy these women of valour. Biblical  Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite who lured Sisera with milk into her tent and nailed his forehead to nothingness and lifelessness. We need to use our potentials, even more than Delilah did to Samson and reduced him to nothing.

The power of a woman is still potent today, use it to save our Biafra for we have no other identity!  Support the fight for freedom. We cannot sit in weakness but bravely stand by our men of valour. Let us ensure victory!

We must end the slaying of our kin and kith, the fruits of our womb. They are killed, thrown to the woods for vultures and other preying animals. Tufiakwa!

ENOUGH  is enough!  The kingdom of God suffers violence and the violent take it by force!
Join forces with our warriors and war bravely until we defeat the impunity raging Biafra land.

Let us ensure the shinning of her rays as we must lead choruses like Biblical  Miriam into her glory and independence.

It is Biafra or we are doomed to widowhood and motherlessness!
It is Biafra for our glory!
Ahoy! Mothers! Women set the sail and let us raise the pillars of Biafra.

Biafra: Same Charges; 16 Women Discharged, About 100 Others Still Remanded in Prison, Rape of Law

By Chijindu Benjamin Ukah | For Biafra Writers

August 24, 2018

16 Women Discharged, About 100 Women Still remanded in prison by the same magistrate court that said it is not within its jurisdiction to hear the charges against them.

After Magistrate S.K. Durumba in Imo State magistrate court said "it is not within my jurisdiction to hear your case" she went ahead to order that innocent Biafran women be remanded in prison on September 20, 2018. This is a rape of even Nigerian law.

This is an abuse of English law and a shame to Nigerian judiciary under the government of dictator Muhammadu Bulgari, impersonated by Aminu Jibril from Sudan.

It is not questionable that Okorocha on the order of Buhari pressurised the judge to remand over 100 women in prison to unduly punish them for demanding that Nigerian government produce their leader Mazi Nnamdi  Kanu and parents; His Royal Majesty Eze and Lolo Israel Okwu Kanu, were either killed or taken away by Nigerian army on September 14th 2018 when the army invaded their home in Afara ukwu, Umuahia during a military operation code-named; Operation Python Dance 2.

It is clear to all and sundry that the purpose of creating the judiciary arm of government in Nigeria have long been jeopardized. Unfortunately, The judiciary, which should be independent and serve as a check to both legislative and presidential arms of government, is now controlled by the presidency. Nigerian judiciary is a sham.

Come to think of it, why would Nigerian police who unlawfully arrested these women take them to magistrate court after charging them for terrorism, which they know is a capital offence and not within the jurisdiction of the customary court to hear? is it that the police does not know the law or they are being wicked?

Nigeria as a country is a disgrace to Africa and the world at large. It should be dissolved urgently and let all the indigenous people forcefully merged together by the British Empire, go their separate ways.
