Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, declared a curfew in the two States; Abia, and Anambra, of the Eastern region of Nigeria.
This was in a bid to curb the "illegal and incessant abduction" of young men and women in those areas by the Nigerian security agencies. Kanu, therefore, placed a ban on the movement of vehicles at night. "It is during night times the abductions usually takes place," he noted.
The IPOB leader, in a Radio Biafra live broadcast, said "the abduction and disappearance of young men in the Eastern part of Nigeria has been on the rise in recent times with the most occurrence in Anambra State".
During the broadcast, Kanu stated that "defensive mechanism must be put in place, by all the young men in Eastern Nigeria, in order to prevent and discourage the clamp down by the security forces," whom he said were on a mission to drastically reduce the number of able bodied men and women from the region.
He advised that young men should not sleep at night but always keep vigil to preventing the illegal arrests going on in the region.
His statement reads in part:
"The police, and army are going about kidnapping and killing people but no one is talking about it. This is why I despise the brain of a black man, always gravitating towards evil," he said.
"The ongoing secret abduction and execution of Biafrans in Anambra State must stop as Obiano announced his rubbish yesterday. We must take the war to these people; they are evil beyond compare, and we must win them - they can never win because they are fighting against their own people.
"DSS (Department of State Security), and soldiers are now renting accommodation in Biafraland; especially, around Nnewi. They are using youth corpers as informants. (Governor) Obiano is at the helm of affairs of these evil plans. They move about in day time, and start their abduction at night".
"Our men must be at alert. From tonight, no more sleeping. All the young men in Biafra land; you must organize yourselves every night to defend your towns and villages. I don't want to hear that there is movement of any vehicle in Anambra and Abia States, starting from tonight; from 12 midnight to 5am in the morning, every day, until further notice. Any vehicle found on the road around these times must be completely destroyed together with its occupants."
