The emancipation of mental slavery is one of the most difficult tasks any human can undertake. To undue a damage that has been done for long is quite a task. When one is born into a lie believed to be truth and a way of life, convincing the person to the opposite is never easy. The people of Ikom have been fed lies for too long; they have been bred in the Nigerian lifestyle. So convincing them on their real identity – Biafra – has been such a humongous job.
For years the gospel of redemption quake Nigeria. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu – leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra – tirelessly awakened the consciousness of the people to the grave danger facing them. He called on the people of old Eastern Nigeria to reunite, overcome the evil of divide-and-rule planted by the colonialists, and pull through the independence of the Republic of Biafra.
Before the emergence of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, many people in Ikom never believed that they had any tie with their kit and kin in the Igbo speaking parts of Biafra-land. Injuriously brainwashed by Nigerian government propagandists, they had ignorantly distanced themselves from the Biafran project.
Culture has a distinct way of defining a people. The historical background of Ikom people is same with that of the Igbo speaking Biafra. The same cultural heritage and value system hold every Biafran clan together. The attention of Ikom people has been away from these things until Mazi Nnamdi Kanu came on board. The Ekpe fraternity practiced by both the Igbo and Ikom people is a beautiful instance.
Fore sure lots of misconceptions and distortion of history have bedeviled our people and our elders haven’t done much to educate the youths on truth.
We, the IPOB family in Ikom, Cross River State, having faith in the leadership of IPOB, we eagerly anticipate to start receiving Radio Biafra signal in Ikom in no distant time. This will avail the so many that are yearning for knowledge the opportunity to learn their true history as taught by our leader, Mazi Nnmadi Kanu.
