Editorial: National Embarrassment As Death Toll In Buhari's Board of Appointees Rises Daily

By Chukwuemeka Chimerue // Chief Editor, The Biafra Times

January 1, 2018

The year 2017, just elapsed without recording the enormous leadership blunders, insincerity, non-commitment, corruption, impunity and what have you, in Nigeria by the disenchanted and clueless Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

I have come to learn that jubilations are reportedly on high gear in the graves across the country, as more dead people are hopeful for Buhari's appointment into the federal boards of agencies and parastatals.

According to the report, however in a new development, feminists in the graveyard are disgruntled as there aren't seem to be any dead woman appointee yet, not even amongst females in purgatory, sparking off a worldwide protest as the Nigerian branch of dead feminists reportedly issued a letter to the president reiterating the fact that women are equal to men in all tasks more especially in the grave, as there's no difference between the male skeletal frame and the females. How pathetic indeed.

The death toll of masculine figures recorded so far to have appeared in the appointee list of chairmen of boards includes, Senator Francis Okpozo from Delta State, Rev. Fr. Christopher Utov from Benue State, DIG Donald Ugbaja (rtd), also from Delta State and then Garba Attahiru and Umar Dange from Kaduna and Sokoto States, respectively.

At a time when the teeming Nigerian unemployed youths are roaming the streets and offices in search of nonexistent jobs, it appears that the new criteria of securing one is by dying, so that the government headed by Buhari can offer you a job. Quite unfortunate!

Even as Nigerians has expressed concern as to whether the presidential handlers of the appointees' list were high on drugs or if ghosts have now taken over the country, the president in person, is yet to address this issue of national importance. However, reacting to the controversy generated by the list, the presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu claimed that the list was compiled in 2015 by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and was released without alteration by the current Secretary.

It is rather disastrous and unbecoming of a government who profess to tackle the needs and challenges bedeviling a complex society like Nigeria, making such heavy blunder without reviewing to rectify the list it made since 2015. Not only were there shortlisting of dead persons into positions which appears to rise each single day but further checks revealed that there was gross duplications and appointments of individuals that are no longer in the ruling All Progressives Congress.

This is even as citizens are growling against the hardship orchestrated by the hike in fuel pump price and scarcity which has lingered on without any hopeful remedy from the Nigerian government. It appears as situations goes wrong in Nigeria, the government and its stooges rejoices.

As 2017 came to a logical conclusion few hours ago, men of God have urged Nigerians to be hopeful this year. This is of course, coming at the backdrop of unusual events in Nigeria in 2017 which can only be described as APOCRYPHAL!

First it was a rodent known as General RATaneous, "who" made it to the Guiness Book of World Records, as the first rat to not only gain entrance into the office of a serving president, while he was away, but to also chase the president out and occupy the office. Amazing!

Next in the apocryphal event is the appointment of the dead into government agencies and parastatals.

In the words of the clergy men, "Nigerians should be positive about their pursuits come 2018. If a rat can make it to Aso villa, so can you."

Similarly, if the dead can be appointed to serve in Nigerian Government, there is hope for each and every Nigerian when they die!

Have a wonderful and prosperous new year!
