Biafra: Declaring IPOB Terrorists; A Resurrection Of Lies Told During The War To Decimate Biafrans

In a country where history is their arch enemy, there must be a skeleton in their cupboard. The effect is that their citizens will be dummies and zombies that lay helplessly watching the second coming of their doom without recognizing what it is. Astonishment, bewilderment, oblivion, repetition and backwardness will become their ally.

This time in history, unfolding events have given the right-minded people an open door to shed light at the dark ends of life. This puerile declaration of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, has offered us the microscopic lens to the obfuscated issues of life. The history of Biafra-Nigeria war needs to be revisited by the world powers, no doubt about it. This is not to revoke issues but to get the facts right.

The young generation has never stopped asking these question. Why were the Biafrans annihilated during the war despite the fact that they were intellectuals, talented, focused and knowledgeable enough to conquer any nation in black Africa then? Why is it that the Nigerian government, after seeing the ammunition and numerical strength they posses, boasted to the world that the Biafra issue was a child’s play and that they were going to crush them in three months time but to their greatest surprise, the war lingered up to 3yrs? Why is it that the Nigerian troops were retreating at the initial stage of the war and all of a sudden, things changed for their own good? There must be something hidden under the pudding. These and a whole lot of other questions are what people ask severally.

That which is hidden under the pudding is the lie General Yakubu Gowon told the world. This lie took millions of Biafran lives both young and old. Only one lie decimated the Biafrans. Only one lie deceived the entirety of mankind into conniving to annihilate the people of Biafra. A race was about to be wiped out of the surface of this earth because of only one lie. That lie is Yakubu Gowon who intentionally misquoted Gen. Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu to the world.

When the people’s general Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, saw that his soldiers were doing well, when he saw that the Nigerian soldiers were not a match to his soldiers, he was so mad because his victory was assured. He saw his victory so near. This warranted Gen. Ojukwu to say, I quote: ‘‘there would be no power in black Africa that would defeat Biafra militarily.’’ Gowon went forth to lie against Odumegwu Ojukwu by intentionally misquoting him to the world. He told the world that Ojukwu said, ‘‘there would be no power in the world that would defeat Biafra militarily.’’ From there, it became a different ball game altogether. Things changed overnight.

It should be noted that this lie infuriated the world powers and other countries of the world to help the Nigerian government in fighting against the Biafran people. This made the already winning Biafran troops to retreat because the area bombardment was too much. Soldiers from other countries were deployed to fly war jets but were never allowed to be foot soldiers in order not to reveal their identity.
This time, that lie has surfaced again through the same military who has declared that same race(Biafrans), a terrorist organization. Can a nation be declared a terrorist nation? Why is it that the Indigenous People of Biafra is declared a terrorist group by the Federal government while Fulani Herdsmen that are often killing innocent people are being protected by the same military. Why were the northern youths who issued the quit notice order to Biafrans living in their region, not branded terrorists? A people that are peaceful in their approach, promotes security, remains peaceful even at the face of provocations from the Nigerian military, received recognition from a notable human rights body in the world such as the Amnesty International, cannot be destroyed by merely cooking up lies at your own convenient time.

This time, this generation is determined with every amount of seriousness and resoluteness to get their land back. What some people of dubious character think about Biafra doesn’t matter to the people of Biafra but what matters to Biafrans is what they think about Biafra. We are ready to die while restoring our nation. This is something no one can stop because it is geared by the ire of all who are marginalized, suppressed, oppressed, molested, maimed, and decimated.
