BIAFRA GENOCIDE: A MORAL BURDEN ON BRITAIN, UN, AND THE WORLD

BIAFRA GENOCIDE: A MORAL BURDEN ON BRITAIN, UN, AND THE WORLD

5th April 2017

Genocide is the act of massive destruction of a race or deliberate annihilation of an ethnic, religious, or national group usually by their government or military power entirely because of their ethnic inclination.

For the fact that Britain, U.N and the rest of the world still kept silence on the Biafra genocide of 1967 -1970 which is still occurring till date by the present administration of Muhammadu Buhari who participated actively during the genocidal civil war, alongside his cohorts Gen. Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo who are still walking freely on the streets of Nigeria without any prosecution for the war crimes they have committed against the Biafran people, they should be very ashamed of themselves.

So long as the United Nations chose to ignore the genocide of Biafra and the massacre of over 3.5 million Biafran civilians by the British government and their Nigerian counterpart, nemesis and karma will continue to haunt them one by one until justice is served and it will continue to be a moral burden on them for the heinous crimes and atrocities meted on the Biafra population.

In order to safeguard their investments on the Biafran soil which was worth a 200 million pounds in those days, the British sided the Nigerian government by supplying them with weapons and artilleries to exterminate millions of Biafrans with the intent of occupying and usurping our God given mineral resources (Oil and Gas). To cover up their evil deed, the British lied and deceived the rest of the world about the truth behind the cause of the Nigeria – Biafra war which was solely on survival of the entire Biafran population who were on the verge of extinction.

And on this, Richard Branson queried in his book on account of Biafra war “Why after 48 years of Biafra genocide, the world pretends that nothing happened”?
Yes the world had to pretend that nothing like genocide happened during the war because the British who was the major players and instigator in the genocide have been going around behind the scenes bribing and blocking any moves by the concerned world humanitarian bodies from opening the case on the UN floor in their numerous general assembly meetings; rather, they chose to discuss the genocide in Kigali Rwanda which is nothing compared to what happened in Biafra.

Many books and articles still proves that the heinous crimes against humanity which was meted on the Biafran people by the combined forces of Britain, Russia, America and the entire Arab world has not been seen anywhere in the world, yet the world human rights watch who worked actively in the Rwandan genocide by bringing the perpetrators to book at the court of international criminal tribunal has done nothing about the Biafran case.

After reading these books: ‘War Crimes, Genocide, and the Law’ (by Arnold Krammer) And ‘Genocide, War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity’ you find out that all these books talks about the Rwandan genocide extensively without mentioning that of Biafra which would convince some of us to understand what we the Biafrans has been complaining about the conspiracy theories imposed on us by the world governing bodies because of their absolute silence on the plights of the Biafran people.

But thanks to God for  Auberon waugh, a humanitarian and a journalist from Britain whose accounts of the Biafran genocide was a great eye opener for those that claim that what happened in Biafra between 1967 – 1970 was not a genocide but a mere conflict between a rebel group and the Nigerian military government as they lied.

His reports indicted his own government for their selfish interest on pitching their investments in oil and gas which is on the Biafran soil over the lives of 3.5 million Biafrans who they deliberately starved to death because of what is in their soil (abundance mineral resources).

And one would ask, can the British government accept the doubtful proposition that the mass starvation to death of civilians in Biafra an act of war as according to Geneva Convention of 1949?  Article (IV) of the Geneva conventions on the conducts of war 1949 expressly states that civilians may not be deliberately used as war targets for the purpose of winning the war. But this was done in Biafra without any of the perpetrators been brought to book.

But be it as it may, Britain and all the perpetrators of these heinous crimes cannot be exonerated from the guilt of their consciences if they have any and cannot go scot free; only time shall tell, and they will sooner or later face the consequences.

Auberon Waugh wrote “When I visited Biafra in July 1968, I was told by Red Cross officials by Dr. Herman Middlekoop of the world council of churches by the Catholic missionaries there and by secular relief workers that the most accurate estimate of current mortality would be 3,000 a day,… And again, “when I visited Queen Elizabeth hospital Umuahia, I saw about hundred children who were beyond recovery according to Dr. Shepherd, who was the medical officer in charge, he said if I had come on an outpatient day, I would have seen nearer a thousand”.

He went on to say that  “Mr. M.N. Nwaubani, who is in charge of the Orie Amaenyi refugee camp of 550 inmates also told him that twenty-eight of his charges had died,…"After I left Biafra, the figure according to the responsible relief organizations quickly rose to 5,000 deaths a day until it has now reached the appalling level of 10,000 inside unoccupied Biafra and 4,000 a day in the so-called ‘liberated’ territories”

From the above accounts, one would understand the magnitude of the genocidal crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Nigerian military government and their British collaborators. One would also understand that the killings continued even in the so-called liberated territories where the Nigerian armies have claimed to have conquered, meaning that the prisoners of war and those civilians captured in those enclaves were massacred mercilessly! What a crime?

The justice we the Biafrans are asking from the United nations and the international community is nothing but our total Independent and freedom from the murderous Nigerian state.
