Gambia: " Buhari You Have No Moral Right To Advice Me When Nigeria Is On Fire--President Jammeh

December 18, 2016

How nauseating and ridiculous too that on the list of African leaders who recently visited Gambia to prevail on President Yahya Jammeh to concede defeat and step down, that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari who lacks every moral ground as a dictator, was part of the mediators to render advise to President Jammeh who has upturned his decision to step down after losing his presidential ambition at the recently conducted election in Gambia.

Buhari’s visit to Banjul has raised some questions here in Nigeria. Since he was sworn in as president in 2015, he has traveled out of the country on countless occasions to the chagrin of many Nigerians.

Many Nigerians see most of his travels as needless and economically unbeneficial to his country especially as the recession has hit the country hard.

Sadly enough, we haven’t seen him yet trying to resuscitate the already dead economy of Nigeria but he rather uses each available opportunity to jet out of the country, thereby squandering what remains in the public treasury of the economic-sick country.

Take a look at the personality of someone whom the international community, Amnesty International and countless civil liberty organizations and human rights groups has indicted for having a zero tolerance for human rights and respect to the rule of law.

A president who appoints judges in his country and hands them a certain script to follow while he raids the house and order the arrest of others who has refused to do his bidding under the smokescreen of fighting corruption.
Little wonder the Gambian President who embarrassed Nigeria, outrightly rejected him as a mediator.

According to Jammeh, “President Buhari as one of the mediators annoys us, Gambia is not Nigeria, we have always conducted elections in our country devoid of irregularities. We are not unaware of the huge electoral fraud in Nigeria on whose back he rode to power, let him put his house in order before teaching us to suck eggs”.

Buhari's intervention in the Gambia political crisis is widely believed to be an aberration because it is common knowledge that one needs to put his house in order before looking out for others’, he needs to first remove the log of wood blocking his eyesight before trying to remove the one in someone’s eye.

Buhari lacks the moral right to preach obedience to democratic principles to anyone because he lost election three times and never conceded defeat even after he had corruptly won the presidency in his fourth attempt, all his actions since assuming power has been a mission to desperately silencing the opposition, sending military forces and government might to fight dissenters who has expressed critical views on his administration.

So where is the moral justification of Buhari’s intervention in the raging Gambia political crisis? A man whose house is on fire shouldn’t be seen chasing rat instead of quenching the inferno.

A man like Buhari under whose watch free, fair, peaceful and credible elections no longer exist lacks moral rights to preach obedience to democratic principles to anyone talk more of the Gambian president who far better than him understands the way democracy works. He should rather go and learn democratic principles from the likes of former President Goodluck Jonathan and Ghana’s President John Mahama who conceded defeat after their loss in their electoral bids.

According to Ekiti state Governor Ayo Fayose who advised Buhari to first remove the timber in his eyes before attempting to remove the toothpicks in other peoples’ eyes, “Did President Buhari face Jammeh and advised him to accept defeat the way he (Buhari) conceded defeat in 2003, 2007 and 2011 when violence was instigated and several people, including Youth Corp members were killed? Or did Buhari lecture Jammeh to take to democracy at gunpoint, which is now the norm in Nigeria?

“How can Buhari, who has destroyed the legacy of free, fair and credible elections that was handed over to him, be the one to prevail on someone else to adhere to democratic principles?”

Even in the just concluded State House of Assembly and National Assembly elections in Rivers state, we saw what happened in that state, how APC cabals has diverted the common will of the people, how APC cabals in the Presidential villa has now assumed the roles of the electoral body, allocating votes to their party and using security agents to force their will on the people. Votes no longer count in Nigeria under Buhari.

Buhari has murdered and abused democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria such that if he was in Jonathan’s shoes when he lost his reelection bid, he wouldn’t step down nor concede defeat. He has desecrated the sanctity of democratic institutions in Nigeria including the judiciary where he dictates what happens.

A man who vowed on national television that no judge in Nigeria will grant bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, where he hitherto defied two separate court orders of competent jurisdiction that granted Kanu bail. Upon that, he has been indicted by Amnesty International for ordering for the extrajudicial executions of over 150 pro-Biafra agitators including those illegally detained in various detention facilities across the country. Doesn’t it therefore, smirks of hypocrisy for this same power monger and military dictator in democratic garb to tip off to Gambia to intervene on democratic issues when he has no regards for the same democratic principles?

Buhari’s sadistic personality could be best described as one who is clean outside but dirty inside; a saint outside but a disgusting monster inside who carries himself as an angel whenever he finds himself outside the shores of this country.

We would campaign for the Palestinians and Western Sahara to regain their independence but would murder innocent and people civilians asking for the same independence from the Nigerian state. The height of hypocrisy and ignorance exhibited under his presidency has been alarming and stunning.

  2. Isn’t really hypocritical for Buhari who never conceded the last three elections in Nigeria before he won the 2015 presidential – now pleading to the defeated incumbent president of Gambia to concede. Buhari is the height of hypocrisy. I think he’s either crazy or unashamed human-being. He's a disgrace.
