BIAFRA: BUHARI'S REPLY TO US CONGRESSMAN MARINO'S LETTER: When Lies Begins To Scorch The Skin"

 BIAFRA:
BUHARI'S REPLY TO US CONGRESSMAN MARINO'S LETTER: When Lies Begins To Scorch The Skin"

6th September 2016

It was with shock and utter disgust that I perused the response coming from Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to the letter addressed to the U.S Secretary of State, John Kerry from the Congressman Tom Marino, asking the United States to withdraw security assistance to Nigeria against the backdrop of President Buhari’s dictatorial, exclusive and autocratic tendencies in ruling Nigeria.

In response to Marino’s letter to Kerry, Lai Mohammed described the US Congressman’s comments as “sadly out of tune with reality and poorly informed about the issues he commented on.” Lai Mohammed wondered why Marino did not take the pains to seek firsthand information from the docile U.S Embassy in Nigeria, further describing the letter as “a propaganda of his own imagination.”

As irresponsible and weird as these claims from the so-called Minister may be, it is now certain and no more in doubt that the Buhari-led Federal government lives and operates on heaps of lies and propaganda which international observers and discerning minds are beginning to excavate one after the other.

The questions Lai Mohammed should ask himself here is who actually has lost touch with reality between him and the U.S Congressman? Is it not true that since the attainment of Nigeria as an independent state, the current administration spearheaded by President Buhari had operated the most skewed and exclusive government which has so much pampered and favoured one section of the country against the others in a clear case of nepotism?

Is it not also a reality that President Buhari himself in an international interview swore to favour one section of the country he felt gave him more votes against others by allocating 97 percent to the North against 5 percent to the regions with lesser votes? Has Buhari in his lopsided appointments in favour of mostly Muslim Northerners in strategic positions of power not portrayed a lack of inclusivity in his government? Lai lair Mohammed!

On anti-graft war, Mohammed should have told the world one of Buhari’s closest allies which his fight against corruption has convicted and prosecuted apart from the members of the opposition party and those with dissenting views against his policies and actions whom he perceived as political enemies. What happened to the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai’s Dubai houses and Aisha Buhari’s Halliburton/Jefferson scandal which were shriven by his government?

It is also absurd and ridiculous that the Minister would describe Marino’s comment as “a propaganda of his own imagination,” as if to say he(Marino) has future plans to contest elections in Nigeria. This is absolutely baseless and insensitive.

It is also noteworthy to state that in the rebuttal against Marino’s letter, the garrulous Minister tactically evaded the area conspicuously highlighted in the letter which indicted Muhammadu Buhari of dictatorial and autocratic tendencies in completely shunning and having disregard to the most basic tenets of democracy; freedom to assemble and freedom of speech, but only saddled on the issue of national and global security practice which the Nigerian government is not qualified to take advantage of.

Also, Lai Mohammed maintained a deafening silence on a particular issue raised in the letter which holds members of the Nigerian Police Force and the Military of being complicit and responsible for numerous extra-judicial killings and war crimes committed against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Well, I assume that his inability to address these issues wholesomely is an explanation to an indirect acceptance that truly, Buhari is a dictator and lacks the true knowledge of what basic tenets of democracy, freedom for one to assemble and what freedom of speech entails.

Therefore, one can deduce from the above that the garrulous Minister lost touch with reality and that it is not disputable or arguable President Buhari’s misunderstandings and disregard to fiscal democratic principles and rule of law in Nigeria.

I had expected the Minister to at least try to defend his paymaster or claim that the various Amnesty International reports indicting Buhari of committing war crimes against humanity and Pro-Biafrans exercising their right to self-determination, is false.

The reality is that when people are unmindful acting or exhibiting certain tendencies, they think people with discerning minds are not keenly observing or taking note of what they are doing. The U.S Congressman does not need to make contacts or seek for diluted or twisted information from the U.S Embassy in Nigeria before he could draw out conclusions on the ill-actions of the current regime in Nigeria when boundless evidence exist. The Embassy which has maintained silence all these while cannot be trusted with sensitive issues such as this.

The myriad reports of extra-judicial killings and military hostilities under the present administration are not something that can be hidden or swept under the carpet; the evidence is laid bare on the surface for anyone who cares to know.
The current regime had recorded a high number of human rights violation, utter disregard for the rule of law and insensitivity to the security plight of innocent citizens of the country.

And it is clear that it was on that premise that the Congressman urged the United States to withhold its security assistance and refrain from the further sale of warplanes and other military hardware to Nigeria which variably will be used to commit more murderous crimes on innocent citizens and freedom fighting individuals in the country.

Marino had rightly quoted from the Amnesty International report that, “in the last six months, Nigeria’s military has unlawfully and extra-judicially killed at least 350 people and allowed more than 168 people, including babies and children, to die in military detention,” not to include those unlawfully abducted and executed by members of the Nigerian army and Department of State Services (DSS).

This is absolutely true and cannot be over-emphasized.
To further buttress the accusations of high rate of gross violation of human rights and utter disregard to the rule of law in Nigeria, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established by the Nigerian military to investigate the military’s use of excessive force and brutal killings of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiites indicted and found the military culpable of extra-judicial and irrational killings of the Shia sect.

Lastly, Marino’s assertion that Buhari neglects the most basic tenets of democracy; freedom to assemble and freedom of speech, is evident of his defiance to the rule of law and the bastardization of Nigeria’s nascent democracy which its judicial process had earlier granted the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra cum Radio Biafra boss, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu bail on two separate occasions which was disrespected by his regime.

President Buhari also deployed military might against pro-Biafra agitators each time they assemble in any part of the country. He had also clamped down on dissenting voices who made speeches against his government using the department of state security to unlawfully arrest and detain them. All these facts and reports cannot be gainsaid.

PRESS RELEASE: IPOB PRESS RELEASE: BUHARI AND DSS AS EXAMPLES OF "PROPAGANDA GONE SOUR“

It was a display of exemplary disrespect to opposing views and lack of decorum that the Federal government through its garrulous minister to rudely say that it does not need the goading of Congressman Marino or anyone for that matter to do what is right. This is so unwarranted and unbecoming of the minister. My advice to him is to tread cautiously in his responses and statements lest he falls a thousand times before realizing how deep he has fallen where no one even President Buhari, can come to his rescue.

He seems not to realize that he is already drowning in a cup of water. Sycophants like him who surrounds Mr. President will only feed him with lies and uncertainties on the real situation of things in the country while the President himself remains delusional that his government is heading in the right direction.
