IT IS RED MONDAY ON BIAFRA'S HEROES’ REMEMBRANCE DAY ... AS NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE WENT ON RAMPAGE SHOOTING!

BIAFRA:
IT IS RED MONDAY ON BIAFRA'S HEROES’ REMEMBRANCE DAY ... AS NIGERIAN ARMY AND POLICE WENT ON RAMPAGE SHOOTING!

ANAMBRA— There is no need gainsaying the fact that on every 30th May of every year, Biafrans always assembly at any Biafran state in the present day Nigeria to remember, honor and pay tribute to over 3.5million Biafrans gleefully massacred during the Nigeria-Biafra war of 1976-1970. This has been the practice observed by true Biafrans all over the world. 30th May is always a special day marked by Biafrans globally.

It was observed two years ago in Enugu, last year in Aba, Abia state.
This year’s 30th May was no exception as Biafrans from all locations in Biafra land and the wider Nigeria, peacefully converged at Eke-Nkpor in Anambra state to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their fallen heroes and heroines whose lives was claimed for the sake of Biafrans.

But it was very unfortunate that this year’s anniversary was marked with brutal violence and heavy bloodshed owing to the heavy presence of the combined team of Nigerian Police and Army who went on a killing spree, militarizing the whole environment where the event was billed to take place. It all started on the eve of 30th May Heroes’ Remembrance Day when the Nigerian Army invaded St. Francis Catholic Church in Nkpor and opened gunfire at helpless and innocent Biafrans who had camped in wait of the tomorrow’s event.

Four of them were brutally murdered and fired teargas in the process.
The celebration of the fallen Heroes further turned sour on the morning of 30th May. Early that morning, the Nigerian army, police and military police(MP) whom was severally reinforced as if they were engaging in some kind of military combat were seen positioned at strategic junctions in Nkpor, heavily armed to the teeth while some in a military truck were sighted patrolling around the venue of the event.

As at some minutes after 9 in the morning, 3 people were already gunned down at Eke-Nkpor before they started shooting sporadically at unarmed people, killing scores of them instantly in a most brutal, barbaric and unimaginable bloodletting competition. As at 11am, the number of casualties had skyrocketed to 22 while several others critically injured was seen gasping for air. The whole place was turned into a battlefield as I witnessed a pool of blood gushing out from the hapless victims’ bodies.

At this point, there was palpable fear and tension. People who were present, deserted the venue of the gathering as they all scampered for safety. Those still on their way arriving the venue was advised to withdraw to prevent further loss of lives. Many lethally injured people were rushed to different hospitals in Nkpor, even while some gave up on the way.

When BIAFRA WRITERS visited a certain hospital in Nkpor where the victims were receiving treatment, some were seen in a precarious situation, in the pool of their own blood, seriously battling for their lives. Some were being transferred to other hospitals owing to the gravity of their conditions which the hospital that hitherto admitted them, does not have the needed facility to administer treatment on them.

We came to later learn that some of them receiving treatment at various hospitals were taken away by the Nigerian security operatives but was later sent back to continue treatment. About 32 people who were shot at and arrested were seen been loaded and patrolled in a military truck by the soldiers and whisked away to an unknown destination even while some are said to be still missing till now.

Bonfires were lit on streets of Nkpor by the angry youth who usually ran forth and back at the passing of military men and police who shot sporadically as they move. Some of them who had ran inside houses for shelter was fished out and killed while they fired tear gas on those they cannot reach. Major roads leading to the entrance and exit of the Southeast region was blocked until it was reopened at around after four in the evening.

It was indeed a horrible sight to behold on the number of casualties who were seen writhing in pains as the whereabouts of those arrested is still unknown.
Emotions, fear, and tension ran high, families became flabbergasted as they receive news of their dead and injured relatives. With this killings massacre and intimidation, Buhari believes he will crush Biafra, but he is wrong. It is Biafra or Death.
