The Nigerian government and its Department of State Services (DSS) has taken to many strategies in order to brand the Indigenous People of Biafra, a terrorist organisation. These nefarious acts to demonize the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ranges from shooting at sight - peaceful protesters and at prayer grounds, kidnappings at mid-nights and secret murder of Biafrans in cold blood, illegal arrest and arraignment of teenagers who speak of Biafra, connivance with Network operators, such as MTN to track and murder Biafrans.
The Nigerian government intends to employ these indiscriminate killings and tortures of Biafrans, so that IPOB would resort to arms struggle, thereby creating an opportunity for the Nigerian government to label IPOB a terrorist organization, this however, didn’t yield positive result. IPOB’s resoluteness and determination towards the peaceful quest for the restoration of Biafra, has mounted a losing pressure on the DSS as on several court hearings, there is no evidence of terrorism or breakdown of law and order against Nnamdi Kanu and Biafrans.

As a drowning horse, the DSS tried all they could to raise their head above water, but the law which catches up with anyone who does not go to equity with clean hands, caught up with them. DSS resulted to blackmailing IPOB, to gain national and international attention but eventually lost due to evidences of acts of terrorism carried out against Nnamdi Kanu and peaceful Biafran protesters by the DSS and other Nigerian Armed Forces.
The DSS therefore, concocted a press release which no one with sound minds would ever believe. On the 9th of April, 2016, the Department of State Services issued a press release, falsely claiming that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) abducted and murdered five Fulani herdsmen in Isiukwuato local government area of Abia state, but ended up shooting themselves in the foot, as their statement was totally unfounded, unintelligent and filled with fabricated lies aimed at framing IPOB.
Lies do not attract admirers nor does it last forever. Concerned organizations who have been following unfolding events between the DSS and IPOB, immediately faulted the falsified statement of the DSS. Intersociety in its press release, stated categorically the limitations of the alleged killing of five Fulani herdsmen by IPOB. The short-comings of the statement by the DSS included lack of investigation to ascertain the veracity of such a hellacious crime as alleged, encroachment into the jurisdiction of the Nigerian Police Force.
Furthermore, Igbo Women Assembly condemned the statement of DSS on the grounds that IPOB has always been known for peaceful approach towards their quest to gain independence from Nigeria, therefore, attempt to link her to the murderous acts of Fulani herdsmen is completely unfounded. Abia state government in the same vein, stated that the said crime was strange to the knowledge of security agencies in the state.

The afore-mentioned testimonies from different organizations and the government of the state where the supposed crime was committed, led the DSS into frustration, as they had no evidence to justify the continued incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu and to why the court of appeal should not grant him bail come 25th of April, 2016. The aftermath of the DSS’ frustration over Nnamdi Kanu’s triumph was the invasion of Kanu’s prison room on the 12th of April, 2016, and the plot to poison him so that he can die after he is granted bail following the appeal.
DSS broke into Kanu’s prison cell, invaded him and left him unconscious. The pertinent questions therefore are, what does the DSS intend to see in Kanu’s prison cell, where prison warders monitor every minute of the day? Would the inhuman treatment which was meted out against Kanu remedy the DSS’ already tinted image? Desperate actions will not hinder the law of retributive justice, the DSS is therefore advised to tread with caution in order not to dig Nigeria’s grave by itself.
